Location: Fazenda San Francisco is situated on the banks of the Rio Miranda in the southern Pantanal and covers 15,000 hectares. It is a working farm and cattle ranch but 7,000 hectares is a dedicated nature reserve. Campo Grande is 236kms away, about a 3.5 hour drive and the town of Miranda is 36kms from the farm.
Rooms: Accommodation is in 18 simple apartments equipped with air conditioning, ceiling fans, fridge and en-suite bathrooms with hot showers.
Activities: A wide range of activities is offered including wildlife viewing, horse riding, guided walks, visiting the lookout tower, bird watching, canoeing, boat trips, night safaris, photographic trips, helping on the ranch.
Facilities: The lodge has a swimming pool, hammock area and a children’s play area. Indoors there is a lounge, dining room and small museum. Special barbecues can be arranged on a hill near the farmhouse. There is 24 hour mains electricity and a backup generator. The fazenda assists with parrot rehabilitation so there are often tame parrots in the garden.
Dining: The buffet-style meals are taken communally.
Children: Children of all ages are welcome.
Health: The Pantanal is not a high risk malaria area.
