Fanjove Island Tanzania
Tribes Style: Mid Range
© Fanjove Island
- A tropical island almost to yourself
- Enjoy the slow pace of life
- Snorkel by coral reefs and canoe to caves
- Walk to the Victorian lighthouse
- Gaze at the azure waters of the Indian Ocean
Fanjove Island, escape to an uninhabited tropical island in the Indian Ocean just 1km long by about 300m wide.
If ever you had a dream of being on a tiny tropical island, with coconut palms, white beaches and surrounded by sparkling blue seas, well it would be hard to get much closer than Fanjove Island.
Fanjove Island opened in June 2013. Tribes director, Amanda, was one of the first to visit in mid-June, and came away truly enamoured of the place.
It is really simple in terms of the accommodation and facilities. The 6 bandas are however stylishly done and have everything you need (as long as you don't need mains electricity, wifi or a bath). A comfy bed looking out to sea, a flush loo and a solar-heated shower form the basis of your banda experience.
In the main building, you can enjoy really tasty 'fusion' cuisine using mainly fish and seafood, and the bar and lounge spill onto the beach.
Fanjove is eco, and it's also pretty cool and laid back. It's not for party animals (though it would be a great place for a party!) nor for people who want resort entertainment, but it is for people who want a beautiful tranquil spot which is nowhere near anywhere or anybody else.
Come to relax and recharge in a gorgeous corner of the Indian Ocean, to enjoy great swimming, snorkelling and diving, and just soak up the peace of your own private island.

What can I say? A ride across turquoise waters brings you to a Robinson Crusoe island, dominated by the ruins of a Victorian lighthouse. This is Boys' Own adventure stuff, but with really good food and great internal design! The couple who manage the island are wonderful - and so passionate about nature and sustainability.

A tropical island with just 6 rustic-chic beach bandas. It's remote and exciting!Learn more
