Elephant's Eye is a wonderful choice for those wanting an exclusive safari experience with Hwange National Park right on the doorstep. Having 600 acres of pristine wilderness at your disposal, there will be no crowds here. This area is home to over 100 species of mammal and around 400 bird species. However, you are not confined to this private concession, it's just 13km from the entrance to Hwange where a host of wonderful wildlife awaits your discovery.
The camp itself has just 8 spacious tented chalets built on stilts. They are set up as twins or doubles and each bed is shrouded in a mozzie net, ensuring you are comfortable at night. The chalets all face onto the waterhole which is often frequented by elephants and a myriad of other animals to keep you entertained. The en-suite bathrooms have a bath and basin, and then wander outside to your external shower. The decor is modern and minimalist with wooden floors and tasteful decor. A welcome addition for those chilly winter evenings is your own wood-burning stove.
The main area is made up of three separate structures linked together by a large deck. They also face onto the floodlit waterhole. The heart of the building houses the bar on the lower level with a viewing deck above. The bar is flanked by the lounge on one side and the dining area on the other.
When you are not out on activities or relaxing in your room, there is a small pool offering welcome respite from the heat on summer days. Nearby you will find the firepit, a popular location for pre and post dinner drinks and convivial conversation.
Game drives are the most popular activity at Elephant's Eye and these take place both within the private concession, and also in Hwange National Park, where you can spend a full day. In addition you can take a trip to a nearby homestead and get a glimpse of everyday life here, and you can also pay a visit to the Painted Dog Conservation Centre. For those with a sense of adventure you could enjoy a night at The Eye, the sleep-out deck. It's located about 15 minutes from the lodge, positioned right by a water hole. The deck is on 2 levels with a bathroom on the lower level and a bed under a mozzie net on the top level. A guide will take you there for sundowners. After a night under the stars you will be collected in the morning and taken back to the lodge for a hearty breakfast. A unique experience.
