Dwarikas Himalayan Shangri La Dulikhel


Open: All year.

Location: The hotel is located in a forest area an altitude of 1700 metres, a 45 minute drive from Kathmandu and 30 minutes from Dulikhel. It occupies 20 acres of gently sloping land with its own forest, cascade pools, birds, butterflies and deer.

Rooms: The resort has a total of 36 rooms built in traditional ethnic style. All have en-suite bathrooms with a shower rather than a bath, and modern amenities such as tea and coffee making facilities. They have picture windows looking offering panoramic views of the scenery beyond. Each room has its own garden space complete with hammocks and chairs. There are no TVs in the rooms.

Activities: The emphasis is on the great outdoors with such activities as mountain biking, hiking, white water rafting, kayaking and bird watching. Visits to local villages, temples and monasteries can be arranged. There is a viewpoint with spectacular views of the Himalayas and the valleys below.

Facilities: The central block houses the lounge, library, stocked with books, magazines, photos and newspapers, the bar and restaurant. The Himalayan Restaurant offers multiple cuisines and is open all day. It has its own fireplace and terrace. The bar is open daily from mid-morning. The Himalayan Spa offers comprehensive treatments under the guidance of an Ayurvedic doctor, meditation, yoga and astrology masters, The hotel offers a laundry service.

Dining: Meals are taken at individual tables, or in the privacy of your own room (on request).

Children: Children of all ages are welcome.

Health: This is not a malarial area.

Communication: There is no internet access.

Notes: Renovation work is being carried out add a spa to the resort. This is expected to be completed in 2013.
