Vessel Information: Delfin I is a river vessel, built in 1978 and refurbished in 2010. Length: 20.5 metres, beam: 10 metres, average cruising speed: 8 knots. She carries 2 aluminium 10-passenger skiffs (motor launches), equipped with radios and life jackets. The dress code is casual for all excursions and meals.
Location: Delfin I is based at Nauta port on the Peruvian Amazon River. The nearest airport is at Iquitos.
Rooms: There are 4 suites, 2 on the upper deck (master suites of 32 square metres and a terrace of 30 square metres) and 2 on the main deck (deluxe master suites of 34 square metres and a terrace of 32 square metres). All have private bathrooms with hot and cold running water, shower, basin and flush toilet. Toiletries and a hair dryer are supplied. There is a lounge area off the bedroom with a mini-fridge, safe and internal communication system. Suites are air conditioned and have picture windows. Each suite has a large private terrace with sun loungers and binoculars are provided to aid wildlife viewing. Deluxe master suites have plunge pools. Suites are serviced 3 times a day. Private meals can be served in your suite. The maximum passenger capacity is 12, as each of the suites can accommodate a 3rd person on a futon bed.
Activities: Exploring the rainforest in motor launches and on foot with expert naturalist guides, kayaking in smaller waterways, paddle boarding, swimming in the river, canopy walking on suspended bridges in the rainforest, visiting a local market and the Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre of Sea Mammals. Pre-breakfast bird watching excursions are available. There are usually 2 activities per day, all of which are optional.
Facilities: The dining room is on the upper deck at the stern of the vessel with a single dining table for communal meals. On the top (3rd) deck there is a bar offering hot and cold drinks, and a large open air lounge with an entertainment system, collection of DVDs, wildlife presentations, an XBox and reference books. Throughout the boat there are artworks and handicrafts by women of the Puerto Miguel community, which are available to buy.
Dining: Meals are eaten communally, although private, in-suite meals can be arranged. Breakfast is a buffet while lunch and dinner are 3-course meals. Free tea and coffee, water and soft drinks are available all day. Also offered on a complimentary basis: beer, house cocktails and house wines with lunch and dinner.
Crew: Delfin I has a crew of 11 including 1 expert naturalist guide.
Children: Children aged 7 years and over are welcome.
Health: Malaria prophylactics are recommended for the Amazon.
Communication: There is a satellite phone on board for emergency use.
