Chobe Under Canvas

Chobe & Savuti Botswana

  • Camping in style in private sites
  • Fall asleep to the sounds of the bush
  • Daily game drives and boat cruises
  • Tasty meals cooked over the fire
  • Friendly, professional staff

Open: Chobe Under Canvas is open all year.

Location: This mobile, fully serviced camp switches between various private campsites in the Chobe Riverfront area of Chobe National Park, moving roughly every 5 to 6 days. The camp is about a 90 minute drive from Kasane, though this varies according to its precise location.

Rooms: There are 5 sturdy canvas, walk-in safari tents. The front of the tent rolls up to reveal a gauze net that can be unzipped in the centre and 2 flaps secured back allowing direct access to the shaded veranda with its 2 safari chairs. There are mesh windows on both side of the tent, a comfy bed, and an en-suite bathroom with jugs of water and a bowl for washing, a flush toilet and a bucket shower for which staff bring hot water. Bedding and towels are provided.

Activities: Generally you’ll have a game drive around dawn each day, returning to the camp for breakfast and time to relax or catch up on some sleep. Later in the afternoon, after tea, you’ll head out again in the 4x4 or maybe by boat on the Chobe River, with a stop for sundowners and snacks, reaching the camp just after dusk.

Facilities: There’s a mess tent where meals are served, though many are eaten out in the open, and where you can relax out of the heat of the sun in the middle of the day. There is a selection of drinks here, and some reference books. After dark the camp fire becomes the focal point, first as dinner is cooked, then eaten and later as post-dinner drinks are enjoyed.

Dining: Meals are eaten communally in the mess tent or outdoors in the open.

Children: Children aged 12 years and over are welcome. Tents cannot sleep 3, so children will not be able to share a tent with both parents. Camp sites are unfenced and it is imperative that children are kept under close supervision at all times.

Health: This is a malarial area.

Communication: There is no internet access. The camp manager communicates with head office in Kasane by radio and mobile phone, signal permitting.
