Chobe Bakwena Lodge is owned by Jenny and Adam Young who have long experience of managing bush camps and lodges and have used that in planning and now running their own lodge. Their vision in creating Chobe Bakwena is to offer high levels of comfort and service at an affordable price.

You stay in a charming chalet, either with a view of the river or set three metres off the ground in a tree canopy. Either way, it has a homely and welcoming feel, furnished with items made locally and specially bought by the owners from vintage shops and auctions. Chalets are cooled by ceiling fans, have handy sockets for charging batteries and Wi-Fi internet access should you need it. You have an en-suite shower room and a further outdoor shower, plus a shaded terrace. There is a rather more luxurious honeymoon suite and a family chalet with two bedrooms.

Days revolve around game drives in Chobe National Park and boat cruises, both wonderful ways to observe Chobe's varied wildlife including its famous elephant herds. There are opportunities for visits to the local village accompanied by a guide from the lodge, and to explore the area on two wheels using one of the lodge's cruiser bikes. In between, you can rest in the lounge, refresh yourself with a dip in the pool, watch wildlife from the upper storey viewing deck and enjoy meals round on the open deck by the campfire.

The lodge's owners are committed to sustainable tourism, as evidenced by the design and construction of the lodge to its current day-to-day operation. The lodge has been built from locally sourced sustainable and renewable natural resources, such as pine for the decks, sand for wall insulation and grass for the thatched roofs. Staff come from village close to the lodge, and their income and training provide benefits for them, their families and communities.

Very friendly staff who performed a traditional Boma evening on our final night in spite of the thunderstorm. The guide was excellent, finding lions and a hyena and very knowledgeable.
