A fantastic first night stop. Views to die for. And the opportunity for short walks in the area to get aclimatised the next morning. Really pleasant staff

A nice hotel but not much to do here and slightly stuck in the middle of nowhere. However staff are super nice and the local dishes on the menu are delicious. Would recommend for one night as a stopover.

Chayote Lodge was fabulous. Amazing rooms (although no hair dryer). Lovely balcony and views. Good for wildlife spotting in the trees. No blackout blinds. No AC but it wasn't needed. Food fresh and tasty, breakfast to order not a buffet. Restaurant and bar shut at 10 sharp though, not sure if this was seasonal. Jose our guide was really great. We hired him for a day and learned so much.

Probably the weakest of the places we stayed. A stunning setting but quite remote. it was a drive to everything other than a small local bar which was a walk through what was almost an industrial estate. Accommodation was good but fairly basic in some ways - no heating for example which would have been beneficial in January. The clue is probably in the word "lodge". Nevertheless worthwhile staying for a couple of nights to do the coffee tour etc which was excellent.

Unusual site. Lovely views from the room and the restaurant. A good base to explore the surrounding area, but not much to do at the Lodge itself.

Our last night in Costa Rica. Great to be out of the city with such stunning views of the Central Valley truly breathtaking. Cool air after the heat was great. The staff were extremely helpful and welcoming. The room was large and very clean with panoramic view from the windows. Only downside they charged us for breakfast when is was supposed to be included!

Wonderful reception staff (Yorlena). Basic breakfast included (fruit, coffee and granola with yoghurt) but rather pricey for additional items ($7 for one egg on toast). The only bread/toast available seemed to be garlic bread. Not so good with jam...! Beautiful spacious room. Well appointed and simply decorated. Very comfortable beds and the best pillows in Costa Rica! Stunning views over the coffee plantations towards San Jose from the private terrace at the back of each 'chalet'. Warm blankets included so you could sit outside on a chilly evening. Enjoyed a very special coffee plantation tour with Jose, the guide at Chayote Lodge.

One hour out of SJ, is this lovely lodge on the top of a hill with wonderful views of SJ and the central valley below. Cool at night and warm by day. Very well looked after, the food was tasty and lot of it. Took taxi local town with its lovely church and topiary trees outside. Excellent end to a marvellous holiday

Peaceful, relaxing, remote, fantastic views, great way to end trip to Costa Rica. Note that no meals are available before 1500hrs, so no sense in arriving for lunch. Very helpful staff, if a little disorganised.

We were blown away by the wonderful views when we arrived. Our lodge itself was great (again with terrific views). Staff very helpful. We were surprised to find for one night we were the only people there (apparently that is unusual and it was booked up later in the week). Pity there was no pool or plunge pool. That would be a real bonus as when the sun came out, it was very hot. Again, identical problems on the vegetarian meals front. No options on the menu. We had to negotiate with the catering team. And on the last day we ordered a vegetarian omelette and it came back with ham inside !

Too short a visit, wondered why we were going so far from the airport for just one night, but it was such an interesting place (based on coffee production!) that we were pleased to experience it.
