Lovely laid back lodge where all the staff were very friendly and keen to make our stay memorable. The owner came and talked to us each evening around the camp fire. Lovely setting with great wildlife to be found in the forest surrounding the lodge. Naturalist was very good and knowledgeable about the wildlife.

The wedding celebrations (two of them) rather impinged on sleep one night. Guides were very good indeed. Wine price was far higher than anything encountered anywhere else (double same wine at some other locations!) Rooms fine and milieu delightful.

We stayed in Sarus one of the luxury suites about 2 minutes walk from the main communal area. The suite was large, with a comfortable bed, large bathroom with his and her sinks and huge walk in shower and our own little courtyard. Purified water and tea and coffee were provided. The staff were all very attentive and the chef keen to please with a variety of dishes at breakfast, lunch and dinner. A nice touch is the log fire in the evening where one can gather for a pre-dinner drink with the other guests. Of course, the main reason anyone should stay here is access to the abundant wildlife. We had a long walk around the surrounding fields with our guide pointing out a variety of birds and the odd jackal and antelope. We also took the river safari, which was an undoubted highlight of our visit with lots of fascinating wildlife to see. Again, our guide was excellent and very knowledgeable. A nice touch was a brief stop in the middle of the river when tea and coffee and cookies were served! We also took the trip to see the Bateshwar temples on the banks of the river Yamuna. This was organised at sunset and we had the added advantage of a short boat ride plus more birds and, yes, some more tea and coffee as the sun set. A very different experience, thoroughly enjoyed.

A joy. Staff, owners & guide a delight. Great village walk. It is a 30 min drive to Chambal national park But close to Bateswar which is fascinating - the camel fair was over but it was having a religious festival & the owner, Anu, encouraged us to go to see the sadhus & 21 temples on the Yamuna. again, a good place to re-balance & rest Large room & good library

The only disappointment here was the noise at night from wedding celebrations well into the early hours of the morning on both nights we stayed here. This was pretty unlucky!! However, we loved the place, the people and the accommodation. Excellent food and care to make sure dietary requirements were met. It was a place that they made you feel very at home.

We had a spacious suite and the grounds and gardens were beautiful and well-maintained. There was a well-produced booklet in our room which provided historical notes as well as other helpful information. In addition to the trips that were scheduled for us, we were offered (at no extra cost) and accepted guided walks with one of the naturalists around the lodge grounds during the day and at night, spotting different birds, deer and a civet cat. The food was excellent and the custom of gathering round an outdoor fire before dinner with our fellow guests made for a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To have 3 nights here after a long journey from the UK enabled us to fully recover and acclimatise.

A wonderful eco lodge. Must applaud the owners for creating a comfortable hideaway, with good service, lovely local food and home grown vegetables. Room very comfortable and if it had not been over 40 degrees, we'd have loved the outside seating area. The chance to take a boat on the river was a joy, especially for John who loves bird watching. Host and owner very attentive.

Loved it here. The food was really good with a choice of Indian and Western. I ate only Indian and really enjoyed it. The staff were very friendly and Charan Singh, the naturalist/guide was very helpful in taking me for walks around the property.

This was a really interesting eco lodge that was clearly trying to create a new awareness in the area, which should be supported. Our guide was also brilliant and the food and staff were lovely. However, on the second night there was a very large, very rowdy family that stayed up drinking until 4am in the bar and were so noisy we could hear them from our lodge and couldn't sleep. This ruined this part of the trip a little for us, which is a shame.

Again not very busy when we were there. The naturalist was excellent and happy to fit around our requirements. Sally wanted to see river dolphins - so our guide made sure we saw them. We thought that the Bateshwar fair didn't really live up to its billing and certainly didn't warrant a full day visit as originally planned. One small point is that the food is a buffet that could have been hotter (temperature wise rather than spicy).

A lovely peaceful environment where we relaxed between sightseeing. The food was the best we had in India and the staff really took pride in their cooking. It would have been nice to have had the option of a light lunch, such as soup or a sandwich rather than the full buffet.

Whole experience awesome. No tv, phone, and limited wi fi with drinks around the fire in the evening was all so very relaxing. I loved the food here. The staff very organised and caring. Chef took us into the kitchen to show us round.

This place was very interesting - our room was in 1/2 a bungalow, set in the park - great to be in the landscape. . We loved our trips: driving around the countryside, looking at black- buck and blue bull, visiting a farm, going on the river trip and especially the trip to Bateshwar, first to the horse fair and then onto the river to see the temples at sunset.

A wonderful start to our holiday. The sympathetic renovations created a calm, colonial feel much appreciated after the dreadful road to get there! The river safari was magical and sightings far exceeded our expectations.

Loved being in such an interesting rural setting. Chilly at nights and glad I brought my hot water bottle. Cold in the dining room at dinner time (another dining room open to the elements!). The wildlife wandering round the camp - particularly the Nilgai - was thrilling to see so close. The two trips from here, the Chambal River safari and the visit to the temples, were highlights of the trip for me. We saw so many wonderful birds, as well as river dolphins and two sorts of croc. Would happily go back.

Chambal Safari Lodge is a wildlife lovers dream. The lodge’s enthusiastic and knowledgeable naturalists are adept at spotting well camouflaged birds and animals and there are lots of opportunities for taking nature walks, jeep, camel and of course river safaris on the Chambal River, which are a must! The lodge itself is comfortable, laid-back and meals are traditionally home cooked and ingredients are sourced locally.
