The Marau Peninsula is characterised by long sandy beaches, tall coconut palms, fresh water lakes and lush forests. Staying at the Butterfly House you'll have all this on your doorstep, making this a perfect coastal retreat after the excitement of Rio and other Brazilian cities.
The eleven villas are set in several acres of well-tended tropical gardens. They have the feel of country cottages with their pastel-painted walls, wooden window frames and beamed ceilings. The furniture is pleasantly rustic and woven bedspreads add a homely touch. You'll have outside space, too, in the form of a terrace or balcony, where you can sit and admire the views. Add to this subtle modern amenities such as plasma screen TVs, air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms and you have the essence of Butterfly House.
Relaxation is the main 'activity', so you'll find hammocks and sun loungers throughout the gardens, a lovely swimming pool surrounded by palm trees, and a pavilion where you can shelter from the heat of the sun. Pathways lead through the gardens to the beach, where loungers and parasols are provided. If you crave activity there are opportunities for surfing, paddle boarding, snorkelling and cycling and walking. Nearby in Camamu Bay you can take a boat cruise to outlying islands and visit Tremembe Waterfall
Meals are served in the Anna Banana Restaurant. The laid back style belies the high quality of the food you'll taste here, an imaginative fusion of Brazilian, French and Asian cuisines. There's a separate bar where you can slake your thirst with an ice-cold beer as you socialise with other guests.
