Brunton was a German boat builder who established the first European boatyard in the India sub-continent in the 19th century at the entrance to Cochin's harbour. The site was abandoned in the 20th century until the construction of Brunton Boatyard hotel. Although only completed in 1999, the hotel has been constructed using traditional Dutch and Portuguese architectural principles of the 16th and 17th centuries and looks and feels like a heritage hotel.

The best feature of Brunton Boatyard is its location, right on the entrance to the bay in the heart of the historic Fort Cochin district. All the rooms face the ocean and, seated in your room you can watch vessels of all sizes from small fishing boats to ocean liners sail past, as well as dolphins playing in the water. Cochin's famous Chinese fishing nets are virtually next door, while a few minutes walk inland brings you to the historic churches and colonial buildings of the city.

All the rooms are furnished with period decorations and incorporate modern facilities including air conditioning, and most have balconies.

Dining options include The Armoury which is an all day dining venue serving a variety of local and Mediterranean cuisine. It also harbours the bar with a wide selection of liquor and wines. The History Restaurant revives the culinary influences of the past and brings you the taste and flavours of the British, Jewish, Dutch and Konkani communities in a contemporary style. The outdoor dining option, The Terrace Grill, offers fresh catch of the day from the local fishermen; you choose your seafood and the chef prepares it to your taste.

Client Rating for India 5/5 from 130 reviews

A wonderful start to the holiday. We had a lovely suite overlooking the water which was bigger than out flat at home! Good location for the old city and happily for us was right next door to one of the venues for the biannale that was taking place while we were there. Good pool and food.
