To be remembered for the humming birds and tanagers on the feeders! And the coaties, agoutis and pacas that visited the garden. The only place where the animals were fed, and it was wonderful to see them. Staff keen to help with identification. Lovely trails through the forest.

Another outstanding place and totally different. I had a private transfer (Christian was my chatty, informative driver) from Selva Verde up to this montane area. The second half of the drive is on massively pot-holed roads so very slow, but that's all part of the charm. Just sit back and enjoy the views (Christian stopped suddenly for me to take pictures of a Gray Hawk he'd just spotted). The terrible roads mean it will always be a special and protected place. It's like staying in the grounds of a private house. With just 12 rooms it's quiet and all about nature so if you want TV, bars or other facilities, move on... nothing to see here. The owner family all take part in looking after the guests. The young son and his friend Stephen did the front of house service (they have excellent English and are very keen) while the father Mario was my lovely, knowledgeable tour guide early in the morning and the mother was the most fantastic cook (best food of the whole trip as it was home cooked and super fresh). There's no bar - I didn't see any alcohol on offer with meals but didn't ask. Just saying in case you feel you need to bring your own! There are no communal areas apart from the dining room which is just open for meals but has a coffee urn early in the morning. The rooms are separate to the main house and are clean and spacious with an ensuite shower. It's here that they turn ALL the electricity off at 9pm to protect the environment so if you want to wander outside your room for any reason, you'll need a good torch. Get up early and go to bed early! The grounds are so beautiful and very well tended. A lovely stream runs right through the centre of mown lawns, and great gangs of Agoutis, Coartis, Black Guan etc come to feed on the grain left out by Mario. Great to watch and photograph. But of course, this place is all about the birds, or more specifically, the HUMMINGBIRDS. They gather in huge numbers around the feeders, and will even hover around your head if you're walking along the terrace. They are mind-blowing and you can spend hours watching so many varieties confuse you with their colour flashes. The mapped trails are very special, taking you through unspoiled montane forest terrain. Rocky rivers gush under little bridges, butterflies flutter in the sunshine and birds zip around the treetops. The Resplendent Quetzal is a local resident (I wasn't lucky enough to see one sadly) as are many Trogons, Tanagers, Toucanettes, monkeys etc. If nature is your thing, go here to absorb it in calm and quiet.

Quite rustic. Good food but set dishes, so some children might need a bit of practice elsewhere first. Very friendly staff. Amazing numbers of humming birds at feeders and flying right around you

Great experience of cloud forest. Wonderful hospitality & hummingbird viewing. No air con or heating so difficult to dry anything (it rained a lot!). Great food.

Beautiful remote location in the cloud forest. Rained a lot , and temperatures much lower. Unfortunately there are no drying or heating facilities so everything left damp! There are good private trails you can take yourself on. Owners very friendly and lovely food , go for all inclusive as there is nowhere else to eat ! Feeders out for hummingbirds so you do see them (this may change in the future). Guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic but a little difficult to understand .

Loved the setting - the peace and isolation - and of course the constant stream of humming birds - lovely trails of different length. Bird spotting is hard in the forest so Marco was helpful or rather essential and the Quetzal the highlight. Warm welcome from everyone. Loved Coati wandering about.

We managed a birds before breakfast, with the very energetic Mario, before the dry season came to an abrupt halt! We squeezed in a short walk in the orchid garden... wow, some the orchids are tiny! Loved the easy access of mammals and the moths in wonderful numbers on a cold night. Fabulous staff.

Dry but chilly when we were there - they really ought to provide room heaters and light the bedrooms better. We enjoyed watching the hummingbirds, though it got exhausting - all that tiny aggression! Also liked watching the coatis and agoutis. A good bird walk with Mario. The downside was that once one finished dinner at about 6.50 there was nothing to do but go to bed and read.

The setting, accommodation, food and service were excellent. It was cold at night so some additional heating in the rooms would have been nice.

This was our favourite place. Your info told us it was boutique with gourmet food!!!!!! It most certainly was not. The rooms are basic with no heating for the cold nights and the food is wholesome home cooking with no choice other than take it or leave it. However, the peaceful, magical setting in beautiful grounds teeming with birds and other wildlife make it a very special experience.

The position in the cloud forest, the accommodation and the welcome were all excellent. Very friendly and personal service. However the lodge was nearly empty ...just us and another couple...which seemed rather odd....and it was very cold in the evening and overnight. Magnificent hummingbirds.

A small boutique hotel. Up in the mountains, so pretty cool, nice walks in the forest adjacent though (even with a guide), less successful than elsewhere. Food was not gourmet, but certainly better than all the other hotels we stayed at. NIce owners, very helpful. We were one of two couple staying there. Very relaxing.

Excellent birdlife and guide which was spoilt by the cold and damp rooms. After 2 days it was impossible to get warm other than going to bed. However the staff were friendly and exceedingly helpful. A little heat in the all rooms would solve all problems and make the place a joy to visit.

This was so aptly named – what a beautiful, tranquil place. The rooms were simply and tastefully furnished, in keeping with the ethos of the lodge. We were made very welcome and felt like part of the family. There was a very good atmosphere amongst the staff and nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent and plentiful (3 courses for each meal!). We enjoyed being able to walk on our own on the marked trails in the cloud forest as well as the guided walks with Mario. The cheeky coatis that roam the grounds were delightful and we felt privileged to be able to see the agouti by day and the paca that visited after dark. This is a superb place to see hummingbirds close-up; drawn to the feeders they are easy to see and photograph on flowers nearby. As the sun came out on departure day, we were sorry to leave.

Good was good and plentiful (almost too plentiful) The trails were well marked. The rooms were spacious, comfortable with very good bathroom facilities. Fantastic to watch the hummingbirds at such close quarters. Room facilities: comfortable, spacious with a good shower.

The location is fantastic and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly particularly Rosie, Brian and Mario. We were greeted by a tarantula strolling past the terrace outside our bedroom! Watching the hummingbirds at the feeders at breakfasts was magical. Lovely hiking trails; one fairly steep one up to a water-fall The accommodation (we were on the ground floor) was very dark and felt damp and musty- this might be due to the location in the cloud forest and the use of natural materials: wood and stone. We felt the food was comparatively overpriced and as it is a set menu there is no choice and you'd better like beans and rice. The free access to hot coffee and water was very welcome.
