Location: Bosque de Paz is about a 90-minute drive northwest of San Jose, in Alajuela Province in Costa Rica's central valley. It is located in the private Bosque de Paz Biological Reserve, between Poas Volcano National Park and Juan Castro Blanco Water Park

Rooms: There are 12 rooms, all with 2 double beds, en-suite bathroom with hot and cold running water, and balcony. They have a homely feel, with terracotta tiled floors, wooden beamed ceilings, colourful bedspreads and local artwork. All have private bathrooms. There are 4 categories of room: standard, superior, family and junior suite.

Activities: The gardens are a haven for wildlife and the bird feeders attract large numbers of hummingbirds and other species. There are 22 kms of nature trails in the grounds, made up of 5 main trails: the botanic trail, the gallery trail, valley trail, Jaluares trails and the waterfall trail, letting you experience a different aspect of the rainforest. On all your walks witness varied vegetation and a great many birds. The orchid garden was created in 2000 and showcases over 200 species of these exotic flowers.

Facilities: The lodge has a lounge with a collection of reference books, which leads out to a large terrace. The large restaurant has floor to ceiling windows that flood the room with light. It specialises in local food. There's an equally light and spacious lounge with several couches and a selection of board games and books plus a book exchange and a TV. Outside there are secluded sitting areas.ll be able to watch birds including brightly coloured hummingbirds, against the backdrop of the mountains.

Health: There is only a low risk of malaria in Costa Rica.

Communication: There is complimentary WiFi internet access in rooms and public areas.
