  • Magnificent scenery for miles around.

Open: Big Cave Camp is open all year round.

Location: The camp is located on a private reserve bordering Motobo National Park.

Rooms: There are 7 stone and thatched chalets built on the hill. All have an en-suite bathroom with running water, a shower, hand basin and a flush toilet, and a private balcony with commanding views. The rooms are simply furnished with an African flair.  Two of the chalets can accommodate families.

Activities: Enjoy a mix of game drives, walking safaris and bird watching. It is also possible to visit a nearby school and village where you can meet Mary the traditional healer.  Matobo is not just about the wildlife though, it's an area of cultural and historical significance. Cecil Rhodes' grave is found here and there are also some excellent examples of San rock art to be found, they are well worth a visit.

Facilities: Communal facilities include a lounge and communal dining area with a bar, all built into the surrounding granite rocks which form part of the building and decor.  Outside is a swimming pool built into the rock and a sundeck where you can soak up the rays together with the views.

Dining: Hearty meals are eaten as a group around a large table.

Children: Children of all ages are welcome at Big Cave Camp.

Communication: There is limited mobile signal here, there is not internet connection.

Notes: Any additional payments can only be made in cash. Credit and debit cards are not accepted.
