Belmond Governors Residence was once just that, the home of the governor of Myanmar. It was built in the 1920's and retains the character of that epoch, with exquisitely carved balconies, teak walkways and staircases, and lotus pools in the gardens. You may be tempted to spend all your time here, within the confines of the hotel, but if you want to explore the city and surrounds, staff can arrange tours to sites including the Shwedagon Pagoda, and nearby villages and markets for some local colour.  

Rooms and suites are all generously sized and immaculately furnished with teak furniture and silks, have a seating area and en-suite bathroom with a large bathtub. You're supplied with a bathrobe and slippers to help you feel at home, and have a minibar and free wifi.  

Mandalay Restaurant serves both local and international fare, and you can feast on tasty Burmese curries on the lounge terrace, served buffet style allowing to pick the dishes and garnishes of your choice.  Enjoy a refined afternoon tea in Mindon Lounge and sip a cocktail or chilled beer in Kipling Bar. Life at Belmond Governors Residence is always delightfully civilised. 

The gardens are a lovely place to unwind. Being in the quiet Embassy District, the atmosphere is restful, and it's easy to relax as you stroll among the blooms and lotus pools, or soak up some sun before a refreshing swim in the inviting pool.
