Archipell I

Galapagos Islands

Loved the Archipell. Great crewe and excellent guide. Food was really good, given that two little guys were cooking 3 meals a day for 27 people. First really "hot" breakfast in Equador. I hate cold eggs! Very caring staff, helped when I was struggling on some of the rough volcanic terrain. Crewe amazing wildlife spotters too. Found the bar arrangements a little strange. No record or signature required for drinks. The barman just wrote down what we had on a post it and told us what we owed at the end of the cruise.

Even if I had to abandon ship, the ship was only average. It was old and tired and the condition just average. In our cabin the air conditioning was broken and the bed wet, but they fixed it more or less straight away, which was good. The food (I didn't eat for two days) but my husband said it was ok, average. The most disappointing thing was the staff, they were really not very friendly. No one spoke English and it was as if they were just "putting-up" with us. Also the captain never introduced himself which I was really surprised about, that I found just rude!

I cannot fault anything with Archipel I - fantastic itinerary, superb crew, wonderful (and plentiful) food, excellent guide. Cabins were fairly small but with adequate space for luggage, clothing etc. and the only time we spent in the cabin was to sleep and shower. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this boat for anyone visiting the Galapagos and would very happily get on the next flight to Baltra to sail on her again!

Safety and attentiveness of the crew was excellent. All trips to shore were well supervised and attention paid (by the boat crew) to people in the water during snorkelling. Food was either very good or practically inedible (the pork knuckles were a particular low point, as was the rubbery and inedible octopus, probably sourced from a toy shop). The common areas were good, sun deck excellent, DVDs available. Background boat noise was acceptable - but see my remarks about cabins.
