Amankora Bumthang is in the Choekhor Valley and is reached by passing the former royal sports ground of the palace, an impressive approach. The lodge is surrounded by an apple and pear orchard. The dzong-inspired entrance hall opens onto the library and a comfortable living room with chairs and sofas, warmed by a traditional bukhari. The picture windows look out onto the courtyard. The imposing dining room has an eighteen foot ceiling. Meals can also be enjoyed outdoors in the courtyard beneath the fruit trees. The spa has 3 treatment rooms, a steam room and changing areas.

There are sixteen guest suites located in four separate blocks, each with two suites on the ground floor and two more on the upper floor. Each suite has wood-panelled walls, a king-size bed and bathroom with bathtub, shower, twin hand basins and toilet. The suites are heated by wood-burning bukharis. There is also a daybed in each suite. Suites have views of the courtyard, Wangdichholing Palace and Monastery.

Guests can visit organic farms and local cottage industries and witness the production of the famous Bhumtang butter, as well as Gouda and Emmental cheeses. The region also produces honey and a variety of fruit spirits and brandies. The four valleys that comprise Bumthang are home to no less than 29 temples and monasteries, a museum and art and painting studios, making this an interesting area to visit.
