Classic Norman Carr Safaris

11 days from £4920pp plus international flights.

This South Luangwa safari uses Norman Carr Safaris accommodation.  This excellent safari company was started in 1950 when Norman Carr decided to bring guests to his lodge in South Luangwa to photograph and enjoy the wildlife instead of hunting. He also pioneered walking safaris here.

This 11 day safari uses all five of the company's camps, starting with their luxury lodge, Kapani.  After Kapani you are taken to the bushcamps of Luwi, Nsolo, Kakuli and Mchenja for 2 nights at each.

You can enjoy a variety of game drives and walking during the trip.  Kapani offers mainly game driving, but Luwi is almost exclusively walking, and the other camps offer a combination.

To make things more interesting, if you like the idea, you could walk from Luwi to Nsolo, to Kakuli and to Mchenja on each day your transfer.  None are arduous walks, but of course we can transfer you if you prefer. Your bags would of course always be forwarded!

This is a high quality safari with really excellent guiding, superb food, and very good (though sometimes rustic) accommodation. Norman Carr Safaris were judged 'Best Safari Experience in Africa' in the 2015 Safari Awards, so you'll be in the very best of hands.

NOTE: This is just one idea of a safari using Norman Carr Safaris, so bear in mind that you can take any length of trip or combination of camps, and you can also combine these camps with those of other operators in the Luangwa Valley or elsewhere in Zambia.
Norman Carr Safaris' Kapani Lodge

On arrival at Lusaka airport you will transfer to a flight heading north to Mfuwe. South Luangwa National Park is just a short drive from the airport, and your lodge for the night is Norman Carr Safaris' Kapani Lodge. You will have an afternoon game drive in the park today. Lunch, dinner.
On a game drive from Kapani Lodge

Another day based at the gorgeous Kapani Lodge, with morning and afternoon game drives in South Luangwa. This is such a pretty park, with the Luangwa River through it, lagoons, and large trees dotting the savannah landscape.Importantly, it is also home to a huge variety of wildlife, including lions, leopards, wild dogs, lots of elephants, huge numbers of hippos, zebras, antelopes ...  This is one of Africa's best wildlife viewing places. Full board.
Rustic accommodation at Luwi Camp

Today you will be moved to the lovely, rustic bushcamp called Luwi. This is within the park on the west side of the river, slightly further north than Kapani. Luwi focuses on walking safaris as there are very few roads near the camp. This is real 'out of Africa' stuff - but with comfort and good food! Walking safaris are an excellent experience, and you will have an armed guard with you as well as a professional guide. Full board.
Meeting an elephant on a walking safari from Nsolo

Today you transfer to Nsolo Camp.  You could choose to walk between the camps if you like as it's not too far. A slow and interesting 3 hours would probably be all it takes. At Nsolo you can do more walking, though game drives are also available. Full board.
A leopard in South Luangwa

After breakfast today you move to the next bushcamp. Again, you could walk here if you like. Kakuli is in a lovely spot right on the Luangwa River. Walks and game drives are offered here, and you're still in great game viewing territory, so your fantastic wildlife experience continues. Full board.
Game viewing in South Luangwa

Your last two days in South Luangwa are at the bushcamp called Mchenja. It is just upriver from Kakuli, still on the riverbanks.  It is also not far from a magical and beautiful ebony tree grove. Mchenja is the most luxurious of the bushcamps, and again offers walks and game drives.  Full board.
Dinner by the Luangwa River

Today you fly back to Lusaka, but the timing depends on what you're doing next.  If you're flying home you can have most of the day in South Luangwa, but if you're continuing on to somewhere else you will probably want to get a morning flight. Breakfast.
