where to go in africa

Botswana: The Okavango Delta lagoons and waterways are filling up fast and the wildlife is great. June is a great month to come to Botswana and yet it's not peak season prices in most places. In June wild dogs start to den, so you stand a particularly good chance of seeing them from now til about October.

Madagascar: If you'd like to come to see Madagascar when it's quieter, yet still good for lemurs and other wildlife, May-June is a good time.

Malawi: It is the dry season in Malawi so a great time for wildlife. Warm and sunny so also good by the lake yet though it can be a little windy.

Rwanda & Uganda: It's dry season here again, so June is good for general wildlife and gorilla or chimp trekking.

South Africa & Swaziland: June is winter in Kruger and the days are dry and warm, with cold nights. It's a great time for wildlife viewing here as well as in KwaZulu Natal's Hluhluwe-Umfolozi, and Madikwe in the northwest.

Tanzania & Kenya: The rains are over so it becomes easier for game drives in the excellent East African parks such as the Serengeti, Masai Mara, Amboseli and so on.

Zambia: The dry season is starting so South Luangwa, Kafue, Lower Zambezi and all the excellent reserves here are now a good place to come wildlife viewing.

Brazil: June is the start of the season (June to October) when wild jaguars are more easily spotted in the Pantanal. Combine the Pantanal with the Amazon for an incredible wildlife experience.

Ecuador & Galapagos Islands: The Galapagos Islands offer a year-round wildlife spectacle which is hard to beat. June is the start of the drier cooler season and a lovely month to visit. On Santa Cruz the giant tortoises come to the lowlands to mate. Combine this with time to explore the mainland to see the wildlife of the Amazonian rainforest plus the Andean regions with Andean markets and haciendas.

Peru: June is a generally good month for most experiences in Peru.

Madagascar: The tropical beaches of Nosy Be and other areas are fabulous.

Malawi: What about a lakeside break with lots of watersports or just space to chill out? Lake Malawi has some really gorgeous beach lodges, some on tiny islands.

Mauritius: Mauritius is good most of the year, with May to December being the best months for avoiding tropical storms. Excellent beaches and many superb hotels.

Mozambique: The beaches of Bazaruto archipelago and the Quirimbas Archipelago as well as the mainland are all good at this time of year. June is also a good time to see humpback whales (June to September) in the south

South Africa: The eastern region of KwaZulu Natal has stunning coastline. Try rustic cabins at Kosi Bay or luxury lodges of Kosi Forest or Thonga Beach.

Tanzania & Kenya: The Indian Ocean islands and mainland coastline are lovely at this time. Consider Zanzibar, Mafia, Diani Beach or Pemba amongst others.

South Africa: Head for Mpumalanga region, west of Kruger, to see sights like the Blyde River Canyon, Bourke's Luck Potholes and God's Window on the so-called Panorama Route. This links nicely with wildlife viewing in Kruger. The Cape is cooler with some rain, but it's still a great place to come for sightseeing in Cape Town, the Garden Route and Winelands.

Ecuador: June can be a little wetter than other months, but it's rarely too bad, so still a pleasant time to visit Ecuador. Visit Indian markets and colonial cities such as Cuenca, or hike in the Andes or take in the Galapagos.

Peru: Come and explore Peru's Incan and colonial history and find out about modern life in Cusco, the Sacred Valley, Arequipa, at Lake Titicaca …

Madagascar: Many people don't know that Madagascar is a great place for hiking.

South Africa: The Cape region is cooling now but always good to visit. KwaZulu Natal is hot and sunny, so walks, cycling, horse riding and other activities would be excellent. Combine with some beach time or a safari for an exciting African adventure.

Ecuador: Try hiking in the Andes, exploring the Amazon, taking a train ride through the Andes, and maybe combine all this with time in the Galapagos Islands.

Peru: It's a good month to be in Peru. Consider a lovely cultural trek.
