Ras Nungwi is a medium sized hotel on the northern tip of Zanzibar. The beach here is deserted and unspoilt and the hotel has lovely tropical gardens providing plenty of place to relax. All 32 lodge rooms and chalets are tastefully furnished and have en-suite facilities and balconies with garden or ocean views.
The beautiful beach is protected by a coral reef which makes it an ideal location for swimming and watersports, offered by the on site sports centre. Diving is especially good here, with shaols of tropical fish and coral gardens. The complete range of PADI courses is offered here. Guests can also go for walks along the beach at low tide, to explore nearby Nungwi village and the turtle sanctuary. Lazy days can be spent on the sun terrace by the freshwater swimming pool, or enjoying body treatments, facials and massages at the Peponi Spa.
The food is superb, using the array of fresh local ingredients. Breakfast is a buffet with fresh fruit, cereals, bread and pastries and eggs cooked to order. There is a choice of dishes for lunch and dinner and a large wine list to compliment the food. The Jahazi Beach Bar is open till 6 each evening and offers snacks and drinks.

Location: Ras Nungwi is on the north coast of Zanzibar, 5 minutes walk from the fishing village of Nungwi and a 90-minute drive from the airport.
Rooms: The thatched chalets and lodge rooms have wooden furniture, 4 poster beds with mosquito nets, en-suite bathrooms and private balconies with either garden or sea views. They are air conditioned, have ceiling fans, safes and hair dryers. There are 11 garden view rooms, 4 ocean front rooms and 17 sea view rooms. The last 2 are slightly larger than the garde view rooms and have balconies, sun loungers and music docking stations.
Activities: Guests can spend time on the beach or by the pool, looked after by hotel staff. The watersports centre offers a range of activities including diving, snorkelling, kayaking, deep sea fishing and dhow cruises. There is a tennis court and bikes can be used to explore the area around the hotel. Guests can walk to Matemwe village and visit the turtle sanctuary. The hotel offers excursions to places of interest on the island.
Facilities: The hotel has an outdoor pool and a sundeck with sun loungers and parasols. There is an open-air restaurant and a beach bar. Special seafood buffets and barbecues are offered on some evenings. There is an extensive wine list. Peponi Spa treatments include massage, body and face care. There is an on-site activities centre plus a games area with a table tennis table, darts and a several board games. There is a flood-lit tennis court. The hotel offers a laundry service and currency exchange. The shops sells handicrafts and toiletries.
Dining: Meals are taken at individual tables.
Children: Children of all ages are welcome, although there are no special clubs for children but there is a games area.
