North Serengeti Migration & Mafia Island

12 days from £5095pp plus international flights.

This is your chance to witness one of the greatest natural spectacles in the world - the annual migration of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle, driven by the changing climate and rainfall, in pursuit of the best grazing land.

This migration safari visits several game viewing areas to give you the best chance to see this natural phenomenon. You'll be travelling in a specially adapted 4x4 game drive vehicle with an experienced English-speaking driver guide. You will visit some of the best game viewing parks including Tarangire withs its varied terrain and wildlife, Lake Manyara with its herds of elephants and famous tree-climbing lions, and, of course, the Serengeti. You are assured a memorable safari with many highlights along the way

After your safari experience, you'll be whisked away to the small tropical island paradise of Mafia for several days of total rest and relaxation. Your lodge is located on one of the island's most beautiful bays, which is sheltered by a coral reef, and offers superb diving and snorkelling, as well as trips to secluded beaches and neighbouring islands. This is the perfect way to conclude your exciting holiday in Tanzania.

Spend a full day game viewing in Tarangire. This park supports large numbers of wildlife including large herds of zebra, impala, wildebeest as well as buffalo, giraffe, warthog, eland, big cats (especially cheetah) and many birds (over 300 species). However it is the number of elephants which will generally make the deepest impression on you. Breakfast, lunch, dinner

DAY 3: LAKE MANYARA

After breakfast, depart for Lake Manyara National Park, taking a picnic lunch with you. You can either spend the morning on a mountain biking safari (about 2hours 30mins) and then take a game drive, or alternatively drive straight to the park for a full day's game viewing. In the late afternoon we drive you to Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge on the edge of the Crater. Breakfast, lunch, dinner
A huge tusker in the Ngorongoro Crater

DAY 4: NGORONGORO CRATER

We head in Ngorongoro for an exciting half-day tour of the Crater. The diversity of wildlife here is excellent, and the landscape is unique! Overnight at Nasikia Central Camp. Breakfast, lunch, dinner

The herds head for the northern Serengeti

DAY 5: SERENGETI

Travel to northern Serengeti. This area remains fantastically quiet and unvisited, due to the relative inaccessibility, making this a great wildlife viewing venue. From July through to the end of October the Migration is resident in the area and this is one of the finest place to see the Migration's river crossings. You stay at Ubuntu Camp for the next 3 nights.  Breakfast, lunch, dinner.
Cheetah in the Serengeti

DAYS 6-7: NORTHERN SERENGETI

Two full days to spend exploring the area in search of both migratory and non-migratory animals. This is a very special, remote part of the Serengeti. Breakfast, lunch, dinner

DAY 8: FLY TO MAFIA ISLAND

Today you fly to Mafia Island from the Serengeti. You have four nights on this lovely tropical island, an ideal place to relax after your safari. You're staying at Pole Pole Lodge set on Chole Bay. You can't help but surrender to the slower pace of island life. Cool off with a swim in the pool, leaf through a magazine in the library, take a stroll around the gardens and relax on your veranda. There's no rush - you have several days to enjoy all that Mafia and Pole Pole have to offer. Breakfast, dinner

DAYS 9-11: MAFIA ISLAND

Mafia's main attractions are its beautiful beaches and clear waters which are ideal for snorkelling and diving, both of which are offered at Pole Pole. These are great ways to explore the reefs and rich marine life in and around Chole Bay. Other activities offered here include boat trips in search of whale sharks, a drive across the island through varied scenery to Ras Mkumbi lighthouse, and boat trips to nearby islands such as Juani with its gorgeous blue lagoon. With all this variety, plus the lovely beach on your doorstep, you'll never be at a loss for something to do. Breakfast, dinner
