Nasikia Central Camp
Serengeti & the North
Nasikia Central Camp overview
Nasikia Central Camp is a traditional type of luxury tented camp. It is south west of Seronera in the central Serengeti region, specifically in an area known as Rongai.
There are kopjes (rocky outcrops) not far away, and this is a generally good wildlife area, as well as being scenic.
It is a good camp for families, partly because of the staff and also because they have a few larger tents which can fit in adults plus kids.
Here you feel like you are really out in the wilds of Africa, and being in a tent (albeit very large and with an en-suite bathroom, and with a great chef cooking you wonderful meals!) gives that sense of being closer to the wilderness.
Sitting around the campfire on an evening and just listening to the silence interrupted by various calls of the wild, you can be forgiven for forgetting 'normal' life back home!
All year round except April and May. Location:
Rongia in c
entral Serengeti National Park. It's only about a 30 minute drive from Seronera which is the nearest airstrip.Rooms:
10-12 semi-permanent spacious luxury tents with everything to make your stay comfortable. There is a desk and chair, storage chest, wardrobe with robes and slippers, torch/whistle. Double, twin, single, triple and family (quad) tents are available and all beds have mosquito netting. The en-suite bathrooms have a flush loo and in the last portion of the tent you shower under the stars with a bucket shower, which you can request when you want.
The tents are lit with solar power. Activities:
You're coming here mainly for excellent game drives in the Serengeti
. Hot air balloon safaris can also be organised from here, though they cost extra.Facilities:
Lounge tent with library, dining tent, nightly campfire. Dining:
Meals are served either under the canvas or under the stars. It is private dining here as opposed to one hosted main table as in some camps. Children:
The camp generally accepts children of 6 years and above, though they say that exceptions can occasionally be made. As the camp is unfenced, children need to be supervised at all times. There are some larger tents which work well as family tents. Health:
This is a malarial area.Communication:
There is sometimes a weak mobile phone signal, but you can't rely on it. No internet or wifi out here in the wilds!

"A fabulous location near the foot of some hills in the Serengeti. A pair of resident Maribou Storks great you on arrival, at night the sounds of the bush are all around. Luckily the predators have a healthy respect for humans and don't seem to bother the camp. Visits by Elephants and Buffalo are not uncommon. Antelope eyes shine back at you from the bush when lit-up by the high powered torches used by the staff as they accompany you back to your tent at night."
