Kirurumu Ngorongoro Camp is a small camp where the handful of guests are able to enjoy the beautiful setting in the Ngorongoro Highlands. This is a good base for walks and hikes and for cultural visits to Maasai communities.
There are 7 double and twin tents providing spacious accommodation with areas for clothes and luggage storage, safari chairs and table and attractive textile furnishings. En-suite facilities include a shower and toilet. The dining tent has waiter service and all meals are served here including candle-lit dinners. There is a campfire area where guests can socialise while enjoying sundowners.
Walking and climbing to explore the local area with its waterfalls are popular activities. The camp arranges day trips to Empakai where guests can hike down to the crater floor to see the flamingos and shore bids for which it is known.
Open: Kirurumu Ngorongoro Camp is open seasonally.
Location: The camp is in the Ngorongoro Highlands overlooking the conservancy, the Rift Valley escarpment and lake Eyasi. It is about a 20 minute drive from the crater rim and the Ngorongoro airstrip.
Rooms: There are 7 spacious tents with twin or double beds, mattresses, pillows, sheets and blankets. Hot water bottles are provided on chilly evenings. Furniture includes a table, safari chairs, a luggage rack and mats. Each tent has a shower and toilet. Both bedroom and bathroom have solar-powered lighting.
Activities: The camp offers various guided walks and hikes in the area. Guests can climb the slopes of Olmoti mountain. Day trips to Empakai Crater enable guests to see flamingos near the deep lake.
Facilities: The dining tent is open for breakfast, lunch and meals and provides waiter service. There is a campfire.
Children: Children of all ages are welcome. There are age limits on certain activities
Health: This is a malarial area.
