A Bush Rover safari is a unique way of getting in the thick of the wildlife, yet be in an isolated and unique camp. It's not like a mobile safari though, so don't be put off thinking tent, bucket shower, long-drop toilets - none of the above. Your personal Bush Rover, which is indeed a fully working Land Rover, is set up and resembles a chic, boutique duplex apartment. You will have all the comforts you need from an elevated bedroom and balcony. Accessed by an elegant metal staircase, it's the perfect vantage point for watching the sun set over the horizon and also ensuring a great night's sleep. The lower level houses the delightfully unique wood-panelled bathroom complete with solar powered hot water and there is also solar powered lighting and sockets for recharging camera batteries.
The Bush Rovers move to give full flexibility to move to the right places allow you to have the safari experience of a lifetime without having to compromise on location, it has the flexibility to move sites. After you leave, so does the Bush Rover, it is packed up and moved on to the next exciting location, leaving no footprint in the pristine wilderness.
Location: There are three Bush Rover base camps in northern Tanzania (Serengeti NP) - see locations and dates below, and one camp n southern Tanzania (Selous Game Reserve).
May to mid-July - the Bush Rover Grumeti camp sits above the Grumeti River in the western corridor of the Serengeti. The huge gatherings of wildebeest attract many predators
Mid-July to November - the Bush Rover Mara camp is in the northern Serengeti overlooking a beautiful migration crossing point on the Mara River.
December to March - the Bush Rover Gol Mountains camp is in the Ngorongoro Highlands (east of Serengeti) where migrating herds often gather on vast isolated plains shared with the Maasai.
All year - the Bush Rover is available for exclusive camps all year in the Selous Game Reserve.
Rooms: Built from working Land Rover 110 Defenders, the Bush Rovers are set up away from any crowds in stunning private camps. We would place a max of 4 Bush Rovers on any of the sites at any given time if necessary. However, having all 4 being utilised at the same time at the same place would be highly unusual. Private, exclusive-use is also available at each location for a premium. Our Selous Bush Rover camp is exclusive-use ONLY for a maximum of 2 people currently.
All have en-suite bathrooms with solar heated hot water. Each Bush Rover has an elevated bedroom with a full-sized bed, flusing loo, and even a hot bath and its own balcony. It comes with solar-generated electricity and plug sockets to charge batteries and cameras.
Dining: Delicious meals are prepared and served each day. Breakfast and dinner can be enjoyed by the camp fire.
Children: Children of 2 years and older are welcome, although this type of safari is perhaps best suited to older children.
Health: This is a malarial area.
Communication: There is no WiFi or telephone signal while on safari.
When the Bush Rover is packed up it leaves no footprint. Hot water and and lighting are both solar powered. The idea is to enjoy your holiday and have minimum impact on the environment.
