Tsala Treetop Lodge is on the famed Garden Route, known of its natural beauty. Tsala's location is no exception, dense forest surrounded by gently sloping valleys and hills. The lodge's design is striking, making good use of local timber and glass, and with chalets perched high in the forest canopy linked by raised walkways, Tsala, which means 'elevated resting place', certainly lives up to its name.
This is a place to celebrate and enjoy the great outdoors, with opportunities for hiking, mountain biking and horse riding on land, cruises, whale and dolphin-spotting boat trips, power boating, sailing and swimming with seals in and on the water.
You'll appreciate downtime at the lodge where you can bask in the glow of an open fire in the lounge, browse tomes in the library, soak up some sun on the deck and indulge is a spa treatment in your room. You'll also enjoy mouth-watering cuisine. Naturally the lodge has its own cellar with wines from all regions of the country, for you to sip at sundown or enjoy with your meal.
There are 10 treetop suites providing luxurious, secluded accommodation. To one side of the bedroom there's a sitting room complete with a fireplace to keep you cosy when there's a chill in the air, and a large, contemporary bathroom. The whole suite is surrounded by a deck, and at the front there's an indulgent rim-flow pool. There are also 6 2-bedroom villas, built high above the ground. These are similarly equipped and styled and make ideal family accommodation.

Location: The lodge is on the Garden Route, between Knysna (22kms) and Plettenberg Bay (10kms).
Rooms: There are 16 guest rooms in total, comprising 10 treetop suites and 6 treetop villas. The suites are located above the tree line in the forest. Each consists of a bedroom, sitting room with fireplace, well-fitted bathroom, private deck and plunge pool. Villas are also set high above the ground. They have 2 en-suite bedrooms each, an additional outdoor shower, a lounge with fireplace, indoor dining area, deck and pool. All rooms are air conditioned, have tea and coffee maker, minibar, power points, free Wi-Fi, underfloor heating, adaptor plugs, umbrella, bathrobes and slippers. There is 24 hour room service.
Activities: You can take boat cruises on the Keurbooms River and on Knysna Lagoon, go sailing on a yacht through Knysna Heads at sunset, take a boat out into the ocean to see dolphins in summer and whales in winter, and experience the thrills of a high speed power boat ride. At Plettenberg Bay you can go swimming with seals, try out your surfing skills and go kayaking. Lodge staff can organise trips to Birds of Eden with the largest dome in the world housing a variety of birds, to see and meet the elephants at 2 local sanctuaries, to walk among primates including lemurs at Monkeyland, and view big cats at the Tenikwa Wild Cat Sanctuary. Other activities include hiking, mountain biking, horse riding, golf, treetop canopy tours, bungee jumping, sky diving and shark cage diving. You can also accompany a guide to local townships in Plettenberg Bay and Knysna.
Facilities: There is a central lounge with 2 fireplaces, a library with an extensive collection of books, an honesty bar and wine. Outdoors there are several decks for sitting and eating. The lodge has a shop selling locally made products which make good gifts and souvenirs. There is an in-room massage and beauty service. The lodge offers a laundry service.
Dining: Zinzi Restaurant offers a broad range of international dishes encompassing various cuisines. The bar is a popular for sundowners. Meals are also served on the decks and in private rooms if wished. Meals are served at individual tables.
Children: Children aged 8 years and over are welcome. The minimum age for the villas is 8 and for the suites is 10. Zinzi Restaurant has a childrenâ€™s menu. There are baby-sitting facilities.
Health: This is not a malarial area.
Communication: There is free Wi-Fi internet access in all suites and villas and in the lounge.
