Thanda Tented Safari Camp holiday reviews

"I really don't know how to rate this. The game-drives were about the best ever - wonderful terrain, a great variety of animals including a pride of lions with 4 1-month old cubs, and a ranger and tracker team who both went the extra mile for their guests. Chistien is Thanda's professional photographer and we got a free 1.5 hour wildlife photography session on the first morning, including individual set-up for all our camers. On one drive we drew a blank for most of the way, so when we stopped for drinks, Bheki went off hunting for someting to show us - a 5' scorpion returned, dangling from its tail between his fingers! My difficulty lies in the accommodation. We stayed at the tented camp and there were a number of problems. We knew that there was limited elcticity, but the generator (for charging guests' batteries) was run during game drives - when you have your camera with you. The plumbing left something to be desired, the shower temperature was very difficult to control and the management seem not to have read their own 'notes for guests' because a number of things (eg a safe) which were said to be in the rooms were not. The food was good, especially high tea, but the quality of the dinner waiting staff varied eg it was not made clear to us on the first evening that dinner was a set menu and coffee was not always offered. I won't go on - suffice it to say that we do not think that this a the 5* experience they like to claim."
