Rosenhof Country House overview

Rosenhof Country House is a family-owned and run hotel near Oudtshoorn, famous for its ostrich farms. The homestead dates back to 1852 and is set in gardens containing over 20 varieties of roses which give the house its name. This main building and the old wagon house have been thoroughly renovated to provide high quality guest accommodation. 

Rooms and suites are attractively decorated and equipped with all you could need for a comfortable stay. Air conditioning, underfloor heating, satellite TV, free Wi-Fi, minibar, tea and coffee maker and en-suite bathroom are standard features. Each room has its own terrace while the suites provide additional seclusion and space with a living room and private garden complete with a small swimming pool. Bird's Cottage is ideal for families or groups of friends with its three en-suite bedrooms. lounge, terrace and pool.

The main house has several sitting rooms and dining areas. You can sample tasty home-cooked Karro cuisine during your stay, from the generous breakfast buffet to a light lunch and a five course diiner. The cellar is stocked with an excellent selection of wines to enjoy with your food and as an aperitif at the bar. 

There's plenty to keep you occupied each day. Oudtshoorn is known for its ostirch farms and many welcome visitors. Animal lovers will enjoy spending time with meerkats and visiting Cango Wildlife Ranch. The impressive Cango Caves are a must and there are opportunities for hiking, cycling and golf. If you fancy a rest from all this activity you're welcome to make yourself at home in one of the lounges or terraces, enjoy a swim in the pool, indulge in a spa treatment or spend time in the sauna.              


Open: Rosenhof Country House is open all year.

Location: The hotel is on the outskirts of the town of Oudtshoorn in the Western Cape.

Rooms: There are 12 luxury rooms, 2 executive suites and a separate cottage. In total there is accommodation for up to 34 guests. The rooms are arranged around a courtyard. Each has an en-suite bathroom with both a shower and a bath, a heated towel rail and hairdryer. All are individually decorated and every room has its own terrace. Suites are set a little further from the main house and each as sitting room with an open fireplace as well as a bedroom and bathroom, an exercise bike, private garden and small swimming pool. Bird’s Cottage has three en-suite bedrooms, a lounge, a terrace and a swimming pool. All accommodation is air conditioned, has TV, phone, free Wi-Fi, safe, hot drinks maker and minibar.

Activities: Bikes are available to help you explore the neighbourhood and Oudtshoorn. From the hotel you can tour Cango Caves, visit Cango Wildlife Ranch to see lemurs, pygmy hippos and red river hogs, take a sunrise tour at Meerkat Adventures, visit an ostrich farm, go hiking, ziplining and play golf.

Facilities: These include a dining room, a separate breakfast room, a bar, three sitting rooms and a library. Outside there are gardens, terraces, verandas, a swimming pool and sunbathing deck. Bliss Spa offers masages, aromatherapy and beauty treatments. There is a sauna and a gym. A free laundry service is provided. The hotel has secure on-site car parking and 24 hour security.

Dining: There is a breakfast buffet each morning plus hot dishes cooked to order. The hotel provides light meals at lunchtime eaten indoors and outside, and a five course meal for dinner. If you’re fancy a picnic staff can prepare a basket full of goodies for you to enjoy in the garden or out and about.

Children: Children of all ages are welcome. Some rooms have a sofa bed and can sleep two adults and two children under 12. Bird’s Cottage is ideal for larger families.

Health: This is not a malarial area.

Communication: There is free Wi-Fi internet access.
