This 22-room hotel is set in 100 acres of grounds including a working vineyard, as befits a property in the Winelands. It is on the outskirts of the two of Franschhoek, often considered the culinary capital of South Africa, and has since 2014 been part of the Virgin Limited Edition range of properties.
Unsurprisingly a great emphasis is placed on cuisine at Mont Rochelle, and both restaurants serve excellent food complimented by fine wines from the hotel's cellar. The bar has a wide range of drinks and there is a terrace, especially good for watching the sunset, as well as indoor seating area.
There are several types of room, all en-suite, each named after a grape variety. They are decorated in soft, natural colours and have double doors leading out to the grounds, a private terrace or balcony. Styling is classic and understated. Suites feature sitting rooms, and top-of-the-range Cap Classique Suites have private plunge pools.
While here you can go for walks and hikes in the Mont Rochelle Reserve, explore on horseback or by mountain bike, browse the shops and art galleries of Franshhoek, and go on vineyard tours including the vineyard at Mont Rochelle itself. At the hotel you can visit the hammam for a purifying treatment, have a soothing massage at the spa or simply relax by the swimming pool.
