Why visit Lesotho?

Lesotho is a small, independent, landlocked country surrounded by South Africa. It sits at 1000m above sea level and is a perfect destination for anyone wanting to get off the beaten track into beautiful, remote lands where there are no fences, very few good roads, and miles upon miles of mountainous scenery. You can even ski there!
Reasons to visit Lesotho include:

  • Travel through the stunning mountain scenery on foot or on horseback. The stark towering peaks of the highlands give way to deep valleys with spectacular waterfalls and open grasslands.
  • Search for dinosaur footprints embedded in rocks, and the many fossils from the Triassic period. There are also more than 400 San rock paintings.
  • Go mountain-biking or quad biking along the Sani Pass between South Africa and Lesotho.
  • Visit Basotho villages and enjoy the hospitality of the Basotho people.
  • Go skiing or snowboarding in Lesotho’s Maluti mountains.

When to visit Lesotho?

Summers in Lesotho are hot and humid, with 85% of the country’s annual rainfall being experienced during the summer months. Winters are dry and cold, with snow in the highlands (the ski season is best in June and July when the snow is thickest).
