Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge is the only hotel located adjacent to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. The location is spectacular, with some rooms offering views of the ruins, but this privileged location is reflected in the high cost of the accommodation! The Sanctuary Lodge is part of the Orient Express group.
The hotel offers 29 rooms and two suites. All are equipped with private telephone, satellite TV and VCR, minibar and safety deposit box. As well as standard rooms there are patio rooms with access to a private patio and sitting area, mountain view rooms with a view across the Urubamba River to the forested mountains, and panoramic view rooms with private terraces. The suites have a bedroom, separate indoor sitting area, and some of the best views from their private terrace.
The Sanctuary Lodge has two restaurants and a bar and full board is included in the room rate. A limited room service menu is also offered. Additional services include a small gift shop, massages, and a videotape library with a good selection of classic and award-winning films. Each evening a multimedia presentation is given about Machu Picchu and its flora.

Location: The lodge is located adjacent to the sanctuary of the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. It can be reached by train to Aguas Calientes and thence by bus to the Inca ruins.
Rooms: Guests are accommodated in 29 rooms and 2 suites. Amenities include telephone, television, minibar, safe and bottled water each day. All rooms are air conditioned.
Activities: Visiting the site of Machu Picchu is the main activity. It is open from 6am till 5.30pm each day. Treks and tours of various durations in and around Machu Picchu the can be arranged. These need to be booked and paid for locally. The lodge also has guides who can be hired.
Facilities: There are two restaurants serving Peruvian and international dishes as well as a snack bar. Staff at reception can change US$ currency and US$ travellers cheques to Peruvian currency. There is a shop selling souvenirs. Aromatherapy and massage are available at the spa. There is a laundry service. The lodge gardens are at the back of the main building and feature native plants and flowers.
Dining: Meals are taken at individual tables.
Children: Children of all ages are welcome.
Health: Machu Picchu is a non-malarial area.
Communication: There is free Wi-Fi internet access in guest rooms and some public areas.
Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge participates in an annual river cleaning campaign and it purchases products, such as potatoes, from organic producers. Guests at the lodge can watch a slideshow about the importance of conservation and preservation of local flora. The hotel also supports the local community by investing a portion of its revenue in the local community. In addition, the hotel sells original crafts in its shops and serves numerous local dishes.
