Inkaterra Machu Picchu

Cusco & the Andes

Rating: Deluxe

Inkaterra Machu Picchu overview

Inkaterra Machu Picchu, also known as Inkaterra Pueblo, is an ecological hotel, located amidst a private 12-acre area of cloud forest at 2020 metres above sea level, along the Urubamba River on the edge of Aguas Calientes. The train station and Machu Picchu bus stops are just a few minutes walk away.

The family-friendly 85 room hotel is built out of stone, adobe, stucco and eucalyptus beams. Stone pathways lead through lush cloud forest to the rooms in one or two storey white-washed cottages. Some rooms overlook the gardens, whilst others face the Urubamba River. All have a large bathroom, sitting area, electric heater and extra long beds with fine cotton sheets, alpaca blankets and hand made coverlets. Rooms also include aromatherapy products, bath robes and Andean sandals.

There are two restaurants, a lounge bar and the Unu Spa which offers body massages, foot aromatherapy and an Andean sauna - see below for more details. The bar, boutique and reception all display authentic Andean artefacts and fabrics.

The hotel offers an extensive educational and recreational programme and the hotel grounds contain more than 3 miles of ecological trails. There are daily walks led by a naturalist guide, and a seasonal (November - March) orchid trail showcasing some of the 372 orchid species. You can visit the ‘Tea House' where the hotel's organic tea is processed, and there are nightly illustrated talks by the hotel's resident naturalist, or visiting researchers, about the flora and fauna of Machu Picchu.

The UNU Spa offers an extensive range of treatments including massage, reiki, reflexology, sauna and beauty treatments. Afterwards enjoy a relaxing soak in the heated natural spring water pools.

Mrs. Lynne Maunder
"Lovely rooms and setting in the cloud forest - exceeded our expectations and made this part of our trip very special."
Ms Janine Sparks
"Fantastic place, really enjoyed it (apart from flies in the restaurant)"
"Wow. Within easy reach of the buses for Machu Picchu and train station."
Mrs Annette Loehr Happe
"Extraordinary! beautiful arrangement of slightly different houses with balconies or large windows. Great restaurant and additional rooms with style incl a bar around. Wonderful meals! Feeding of birds in the morning is amazing, the hummingbirds and orchids, too. You have to book a tour early enough (one day before usually), staff was rather impersonal (not so in bar and restaurant)."
