The Casa Andina Private Collection Arequipa occupies the former Mint House, a National Historic Monument and has been extensively restored and remodelled to form a lovely colonial hotel. It is set in the heart of the historic quarter of the city, near Santa Catalina convent, close to the restaurant and bar district and just 3 blocks from Arequipa's main square, the Plaza de Armas.
There are 41 rooms and suites, with ensuite bathrooms, TV, 'phone, air conditioning, internet access and coffee making facilities. The restaurant is open for the buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner. Its 2 rooms have dark wooden floors and period furnishings and open on to one of the two attractive courtyards. The colonial dining room has a high vaulted ceiling while the Republican-era room is decorated in opulent greens and reds. The restaurant specialises in local cuisine, with dishes including grilled ostrich and crayfish chowder. The colonial-style bar serves a wide range of drinks and opens on to the main courtyard.
Other facilities include a sunny fourth floor terrace with fine views of the cathedral and El Misti volcano, a handicraft and gift shop, laundry service, ATM and room service between 6am and 11pm.
"A large characterless hotel undergoing some major renovation works, although the drilling did stop when we asked. Only there for one night. Staff were friendly."
