Kantipur Temple House

The Kathmandu Valley

Rating: Mid-range

Kantipur Temple House overview

Kantipur Temple House is a 42-room hotel built in a traditional Newari style, preserving local architecture and craftsmanship. It is in the heart of Kathmandu, a short walk from shops and restaurants of the Thamel district, and within walking distances of Kathmandu's beautiful Durbar Square. As such it is an ideal place to base yourself to explore this vibrant city.

The hotel has walled gardens and a rooftop terrace overlooking the city and the hills beyond. It is a showcase of environmental and social responsibility, promoting energy and water saving technology, recycling and supporting the local community. Whilst simply done, the rooms are very comfortable. They all have en-suite bathrooms with shower. The restaurant offers really excellent cuisine, both Nepali and other styles, and much of the produce comes from local growers.

Kantipur is welcoming, comfortable, good value and eco-friendly. We highly recommend it.

This inspiring hotel backs 'Clean Energy Nepal' through many projects such as biogas to discourage deforestation, plus it maintains a private forest & organic farm. Water-saving and energy-saving are emphasised strongly here, and since waste is not well managed in Nepal, it is kept to an absolute minimum in Kantipur. And this is just some of their initiatives.

Karen Roem and Erik Timmers

"Loved the hot water bottles!"

Mrs. Yvonne Chapman
"Particularly good considering the location in central Kathmandu. The welcome was very good and the staff were very helpful. The food was good, but we had better elsewhere, which was the only reason I did not give a better grade."
Mrs Deborah Daplyn
"The road leading to it is a little scary but the hotel itself was excellent. Food very good, service excellent and the situation was very nice as it was away from the main area of Thamel and quieter at night"
Louise Harra
"Staff are very friendly, food is excellent. It is off the main road so is a quiet retreat in busy Kathmandu. It is cold in winter so be prepared for that! But the staff do provide you with hot water bottles which is nice!"
Linda DeZilva
"Our home from home during our trip! Lovely spacious rooms, good food, easy relaxed atmosphere and dare I say it again - excellent staff, who were always there to help."
