Ongava Lodge

Northern Namibia

Rating: Deluxe

Ongava Lodge overview

Ongava Lodge is a prime safari destination in a private game reserve bordering Etosha National Park. The wildlife is the main attraction: elephants, giraffes, gemsbok, springbok, leopards and lions frequent the area, and rhino can be tracked on foot for an extra special nature experience. Add guided walks, bird watching and photographic hides and you have a comprehensive safari experience.

Between activities you can enjoy the relaxed pace of life at the lodge, savouring meals in the relative cool of the thatched dining area, sipping a drink at the bar as you chat to other travellers. The lounge is a large, welcoming space with plenty of seating that leads out to a terrace where a fire is lit at night. The deck overlooks a waterhole that is visited by a variety of animals and birds, and is floodlit at night. A little way from the main area there's a deck and swimming pool.

Bulit of stone and thatch, and decorated in light tones and with high ceilings, the chalets feel spacious. Aiir conditioning and ceiling fans keep them cool. There is plenty of storage space and you can make yourself a cup fo tea or coffee to enjoy on the veranda. All are en-suite with dual hand basins, flush toilet and shower plus an extravagent outdoor shower. One of the chalets is larger with 2 adjoining bedrooms, making excellent family accommodation.
