Terraco das Quitandas

Northern Mozambique

Rating: Modest

Terraco das Quitandas overview

Terraco das Quintandas is a guest house on Mozambique Island, a short distance from the coast in the north of the country. It's a small island, some 3 kilometres long and just 300-400 metres wide, and is linked to the mainland by a bridge.

The guest house is over 300 years old and and has a colourful history, and became a guest house in 2009. It is built around am inner courtyard and is surrounded by pretty gardens just a short walk from the beach. Facilities include two balconies, one overlooking the garden and the other facing the courtyard, plus a roof terrace offering panoramic views of the island and magnificent sunset vistas. Indoors there is a lounge with several sofas where you can unwind, admire the eclectic antiques and art collection and chat to other guests. There is a second, smaller sitting room and a reading room with a selection of board games and an honesty bar.

There are six guest rooms arranged over the three floors of the house, all air conditioned and en-suite, and differing in size, layout and decor.

Continental breakfast of cereals, fresh fruit, breads and pastries is served each morning. Staff are happy to arrange walking tours of Mozambique Island, with a guide to show you the historical and cultural highlights. Back at the guest house you can enjoy a soothing massage either in the privacy of your room or on the terrace.
