Le Telfair is located in the heart of the Domaine de Bel Ombre, a former sugar plantation with a magnificent 19th century colonial mansion which forms part of the hotel. The lush tropical gardens through which the Citronniers River runs, add to the relaxed atmosphere.
There are 158 rooms and suites, all with ensuite bathroom, air conditioning, ceiling fan, TV, minibar, safe, internet access and 'phone. Rooms feature French colonial decor such as dark wooden floors, high ceiling and French windows, and have either a veranda or balcony with sea or river views. The suites also have an expresso machine and 24 hour butler service. In addition there are some 20 villas with 6 or 8 rooms.
Food is a high priority and there is a wide choice of dining options to suit all tastes. Annabella's is the main restaurant and features an open kitchen, so guests can watch food being prepared and cooked and interact with the chefs. It specialises in Mediterranean cuisine with Mauritian influences. As well as the idoor dining area there is a terrace for al fresco meals. Gin'ja produces Japanese and Asian cuisine, using local fresh fish and seafood. It is set at the edge of the lagoon and candelit dinners can be taken on the open deck. Le Chateau de Bel Ombre is in the old plantation house and retains the sophisticated atmosphere and charms of that era. It specialises in local Mauritian food. For a more relaxed meal, Le Palmier bar restaurant offers poolside snacks and light fare including BBQs. During the day guests can enjoy their favourite snacks and drinks without stirring from the beach, as staff are on hand to cater for their needs. The Cavendish bar and lounge is the perfect place for a pre or post dinner drink and chat with fellow guests.
There are numerous activities for guests to enjoy including a range of watersports (windsurfing, dinghy sailing, waterskiing, snorkelling etc) and land sports including tennis, beach volleyball, aerobics, yoga and tai chi sessions. Horse riding can also be arrange a short drive away (pay locally). The 18-hole par 72 'Golf du Chateau' golf course is attached to the hotel and will keep golfers happy. The hotel is near the Valriche Nature Reserve, with 2500 hectares of forest, rainforest and waterfalls. Guided tours and treks can be arranged.
For those wanting less taxing pursuits, time can be spent in and around the swimming pool, on the beach, strolling around the gardens or enjoying some of the many treatments offered by the Six Senses Spa, which include massage, facial, manicure and pedicure. The spa has 9 private treatment rooms plus 2 gazebos set in the tranquil garden. The hammam and sauna need to be booked in advance. Additional hotel faciltiies include a kids club and teens club, a boutique selling souveniers and beach accessories, a currency exchange, library and DVD rental.
