20 Degres Sud (ex Colonial Coconut) was one of the first tourist hotels on Mauritius, established over twenty years ago. It is a small boutique hotel with 29 rooms and 7 suites, with plenty of charm and friendly staff. Each room is uniquely furnished and decorated with lots of homely Mauritian Colonial touches.
The hotel is located at Pointe Malartic set between Grand Baie and Pointe aux Canonniers on the North of Mauritius. It stands on a turquoise lagoon facing the islands to the north (le Coin de Mire, Ile Ronde and Ile Plate).
This is a peaceful location, though if you fancy a livelier scene Grand Baie is just 3kms away for shops and restaurants with plenty of crafts, markets and entertainment, and the hotel provides a free shuttle service for guests.
Many activities are included in the price here and others, such as water skiing, diving and horse riding, can be arranged at extra charge. You can treat yourself to a range of spa and beauty treatments during your stay. The popular beach of Mont Choisy can be reached beach in 5 minutes, the botanical gardens and Sugar Museum are just 15 minutes drive away and the capital, Port Louis, is about 30 minute drive from the hotel.
The 36 rooms which are sited in a coconut grove facing the sea, are divided into austral suites, suites, beachfront and charm rooms. All individually decorated and furnished. All rooms have bathrooms with both bath and shower and separate toilets. They also all have telephones and satellite TV, mini bars and tea and coffee facilities plus all the usual comforts such as air con. Each has a terrace or balcony.
The main restaurant is run by a talented young Mauritian chef providing plenty of fresh local food. It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. At the poolside bar, La Voile, you can enjoy light meals until sunset, fresh fruit juices, traditional drinks and house rum cocktails plus excellent French or South African wines. Romantic evening meals can be booked aboard the elegant M/S Lady Elizabeth which caters for 4 couples, or you can book it exclusively for an intimate dinner.

0"This is a gorgeous boutique style hotel, very private with its access through a huge door in a wall like a secret garden! The food and drink is great and the facilities are luxurious. However, many of the rooms are not facing the sea and are very close together. The beach is quite small and rocky. If you are looking for a good hotel with easy proximity to Grand Baie for restaurants and shops then it's ideal."
