Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve
Nkhotakota is a huge wildlife reserve in central Malawi. It's about 30 kms from the lakeshore. The landscape here is very varied and scenic with rivers, hills, rocky outcrops, forest and grassland.
It's a real wilderness which of course has positives and negatives for the visitor.
It is quite difficult to get around here due to the lack of road infrastructure, and yet there is plenty to see. If you're willing to get out on foot or by canoe you will get more out of this reserve.
There is good wildlife here including excellent birdlife, but you need to come here for more than that. It's the wilderness itself which is the big draw.
