Set on 55 acres of private land between Nakuru and Gilgil, this lodge is located in the Great Rift Valley,on the shore of the 'pink' Lake Elementaita. Sunbird Lodge is named after one of the more than 450 species of birds in this area.
The setting overlooks the vast plains of Soysambu Conservancy. Beautifully nestled in a pristine environment above Lake Elementaita you can experience the amazing sunsets from the lodge.
It is a small and exclusive lodge which currently has 14 large and luxurious cottages, with plans to build 2 more. These cottages are built from natural materials and have thatched roofs. Each cottage has its own verandah, king size bed, additional single bed, mosquito net, safe, telephone and en-suite bathroom.
The restaurant has big glass doors overlooking the lake. It serves a buffet breakfast and a la carte meals for lunch and dinner. Two fire places keep you warm and spread a romantic atmosphere. Meals can also be served outdoors under the stars overlooking the swimming pool and Lake Elmentaita. There is a well-stocked lounge bar. The Lodge is 20 minutes drive from Lake Nakuru National Park.
In the day relax and pamper yourself to a massage or take a dip in the swimming pool, take a game drive in Nakuru National Park, just 20 minutes away. treat yourself to a dawn balloon ride followed by a champagne bush breakfast. In the evening watch the sunset over the lake while you sip a sundowner.
Location: 127km northwest of Nairobi, less than 2 hours drive. The lodge is in the Great Rift Valley at Lake Elementaita.
Rooms: 14 luxury cottages with stunning views. They have en-suite shower rooms, spacious bedrooms and private verandas.
Activities: Day trips to Lake Nakuru National Park for game viewing and to see the famous flamingos, excursions to Hells Gate National Park and to Lake Naivasha where you can take a boat trip for fantastic Hippo watching. From here you can also go bird watching; and walking safaris, visit tea and coffee plantations, prehistoric sites of interest and an Ostrich Park. Horse riding is also available.
Facilities: The lodge has a restaurant, an outdoor dining area and a lounge bar. There is an outdoor swimming pool with pool bar. Massages can be arranged. Additional facilities include a laundry service and money exchange
Dining: Sit back and relax with a pre or post dinner cocktail by the open fire in the bar and longue area. The restaurant offers breathtaking views thought glass doors. Breakfast here is served buffet style and lunch and dinner are a la carte. There is also an outdoor dining area where you can dine in moonlight (weather permitting of course!)

Communication: There are telephones in the cottages. You should be able to get a good mobile signal here. There is free internet access.
