Richard's Forest Camp (formerly Richard's Camp) is situated on the edge of a small forest, where elephant and plains animals are regular visitors and bird-life abounds. Richard's Camp is a small, private and exclusive seasonal camp owned and operated by Richard Roberts and was originally built as the Roberts' family home whilst they carried out conservation work in the Masai Mara.
The camp is in a conservation area north west of the Masai Mara Game Reserve. It is a traditional tented camp in true African safari style set within riverine forest and short grass plains of the Mara. Each of the eight spacious custom-designed tents is individually decorated and features an en suite flush toilet and heated shower. A solar system provides clean, silent power and ensures 24-hour light to all the tents.
As the weather almost always permits, meals are eaten outdoors, delicious three-course dinners enjoyed under an awe-inspiring canopy of stars. For any rainy or chilly evenings, indoor dining can arranged, adjacent to the beautiful and cosy sitting room with its roaring fire. At the end of the day, guests can even indulge in an open-air Victorian bath tucked away in the forest, surrounded by flickering candles and the sounds of the bush.
As this is a small camp, you can design your days as you wish, to be as exciting or relaxing as you please. There is a variety of activities from which to choose - escorted bush walks, day and night game drives, sundowners, full days out with delicious picnic lunches into the very heart of the Masai Mara and cultural visits to Maasai villages. Balloon safaris and day trips to Lake Victoria can also be arranged at an extra cost.
Richard's Forest Camp is situated in an area owned and managed by the Maasai people themselves under the name of The Ol Choro Oirouwa Wildlife Management and Conservation Association. A portion of every client's per night fee is put back into the community and local projects. The camp employs three local guides.
