Going on a good safari is not really something which is easy to do on a tight budget. Camping offers one way to keep the price down, but it is important that this is not matched with having an inferior safari vehicle, nor, more importantly, an inferior guide.
Our 'Kenya adventure camping' is not only good quality, with excellent service from staff in camp and good meals cooked by the camp chef, but you have a very high quality guide of the same standard as we offer on our more expensive tailor made lodge-based safaris here in Kenya.
So the benefit to you is lower cost accommodation, but not a lesser safari experience.
Additional advantages are that you are closer to the wilderness and it feels like a real adventure. And you don't have to do any work with this type of camping either!
Open: This style of camping is not available in the rainy seasons from April to June and from November to mid-December.
Location: This adventure camping in Kenya is possible in various locations.
Rooms: The dome tents are for 2 people (or 2 adults and a small child would also be possible). They are 6ft high in the centre and 10ft by 10ft square. A comfortable mattress and a pillow are provided. The tents are insect proof. Each tent has a private bathroom tent immediately behind with a flush loo, wash basin and bush shower. You can either bring your own sleeping bad and towel, or these can be hired for $10 per person per day.
Activities: Your expert guide will take you out each day on safari. He will do what he can to allow you to see as much as possible of the region you are visiting, and of course the resident wildlife. In some areas bush walks and night drives are also possible.
Staff: There are staff at the camp the whole time and you don't have to do any of the camp chores. The staff do all the cooking, cleaning, washing up, heating water for shower and so on. The camp is hosted by your professionally qualified safari guide.
Dining: An experienced safari chef cooks each meal for you. Meals are high quality, and usually served in the dining tent, with picnic lunches provided on all-day game drives. Mineral water is supplied daily both when you are in camp and also on game drives and walks. Other drinks are not included, but beers and soft drinks are available at reasonable prices, and if you want to bring your own wine or spirits that is fine.
Children: This is not really recommended for children under 10 years old. There are discounted rates for children from 10-16 years.
Health: Kenya is mostly a malarial region.
Communication: Mobile phone signals can not be guaranteed, and there is no Wi-Fi.
Superb game viewing in the Masai Mara and Amboseli staying in good value adventure camps.
