Sherbagh is a lovely tented camp set on a private estate in the buffer zone of Ranthambore National Park. Set in spacious grounds and surrounded by pretty woodland, the accommodation is in a wide crescent of 12 tents fitted out in the style of colonial hunting tents, with teak and rosewood furniture. The tents are large and very comfortable, erected on a permanent base. Each has a bathroom in green marble, stone and copper with a sunken shower and hot water. Privacy is assured by the plentiful greenery which surrounds the tents. There are also 2 further tented suites a short distance away.
The dining tent is sophisticated and spacious, the perfect place for meals when it is too hot or cool to eat outdoors. Meals can also be served al fresco in fine weather. The cuisine is a mix of Indian and continental and an Italian buffet is served at lunch time. The al fresco thali dinner around the campfire is not to be missed. There is a good selection of wines to complement the food. Guests can relax in The Library Bar, a cosy spot with comfortable leather sofas. a well-stocked bar and a range of games. There is also a collection of books on wildlife for guests to read.
The lap pool overlooks fields and the Aravalli hills and is a great place to relax between game drives. There are also 2 spa tents set on the edge of the camp, for guests who want to be pampered. The camp has its own vegetable gardens which have recently been extended and provide all the fresh fruit and vegetables for the camp. Guests are welcome to visit these gardens. The resident naturalists are on hand to explain the local flora and fauna. There is a very personal level of service at the camp which ensiures a friendly atmosphere. This is a comfortable and stylish jungle camp, which will appeal to nature and wildlife lovers.
Open: Sherbagh is open from October to mid-May each year and closes in the monsoon season.
Location: Sherbagh borders Ranthambore National Park in the northern state of Rajasthan. The nearest airport is in Jaipur, a 4-hour drive away. There is a railway station in Sawai Madhopur, 13kms from the camp.
Rooms: Sherbagh is a tented camp with 12 luxury air conditioned canvas tents furnished with Edwardian campaign style furniture. They have attached bathrooms. The tents are arranged in an arc around a lawned area. There are also 2 special tented suites: the Royal Suite and the Luxury Suite, set a little apart.
Activities: Morning and afternoon jeep safaris in Ranthambore National Park, guided bird watching walks, guided visit to Ranthambore Fort, village visits including a visit to a women's craft cooperative supported by Sherbagh. The camp can arrange horse riding.
Facilities: Sherbagh offers decks with hammocks and sunbeds, an infinity swimming pool and an organic herb and vegetable garden. The jungle spa offers a range of treatments and massages. There is a campfire which is lit each night. Meals are served al fresco or in the dining tent. Private dining can be arranged in secluded areas of the camp. Both traditional Indian and western food is available. The camp has a bar on the upper storey of the main building. Downstairs there is a library/lounge with a selection of books and games. There is a small tent displaying photographs taken in the park. There is a boutique on site selling clothes, jewellery and handicrafts.
Dining: Meals are taken at individual tables.
Children: Children of all ages are welcome. The camp arranges special activities for children and has a collection of games and toys. Babysitting can be arranged on request.
Health: We recommend malaria prophylactics for travel to India.
Communication: There is free Wi-Fi internet access in the bar and lodge area.
