Nature Heritage

Central Reserves

Rating: Mid-range

Nature Heritage overview

Nature Heritage Resort offers excellent mid-range accommodation at Bandhavgarh. It has 22 rooms with quite simple colourful furnishings. It is set in mature gardens and has a relaxed atmosphere. I like the library here which is a very distinctive stylish building. It is an excellent place to base yourself for a tiger safari in Bandhavgarh National Park.

Morning and evening jeep safaris are escorted by their specialist naturalists. You can also do elephant-back tiger viewing in Bandhavgarh.

Raj who manages Nature Heritage is extremely knowledgeable about the park, the issues of conservation and the local communities. His is heavily involved in helping both the local community and the conservation efforts and is extremely well respected for his work in these fields.

Open:  Nature Heritage is 16th October till 30th June, to coincide with the opening of Bandhavgarh National Park.

Location:  Nature Heritage is located adjacent to Bandhavgarh National Park and near Tala village in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The nearest airports are Jabalpur (200kms) and Khajuraho (250kms).

Rooms:  There are 22 air conditioned cottages with private verandas looking towards the Vindhyanchal hills, attached bathrooms with running hot and cold water and modern amenities.

Activities:  Morning and evening jeep safaris in Bandhavgarh National Park, bird watching, photographic safaris, excursion to Bandhavgarh Fort, guided walks to local villages, nature walks and cycling. Elephant back safaris to view tigers are offered by the national park but cannot be guaranteed.

Facilities:  The lodge’s open-sided restaurant serves multi-cuisine dishes, using locally sourced ingredients. Meals can also be taken on the terrace, in the gardens or round the camp fire in the evenings. There is a library with books and board games, a nature shop, an open air terrace and attractive gardens. Nature Heritage has an in-house naturalist and holds evening presentations about the history, habitat and wildlife of Bandhavgarh.

Dining:  Meals are taken at individual tables.

Children:  Children of all ages are welcome.

Health:  We recommend malaria prophylactics for travel to India.

Communication:  There is free Wi-Fi internet access.

Mr Guy Hewitt (17/02/2013)

"Felt the problem was more about the design of the place, and their keeping parties apart so that the pleasure of being able to share stories with others was not so easy. They did provide us with a birthday cake and did us a \'barbecue\' which was a disappointment as it was normal dinner from the restaurant in tins. Staff had a tendency to stand and stare if not engaged on something."

Vincent Gentle (13/03/2012)
"Excellent in every regard"
Neil Ritchie (21/10/2011)
"Excellent service and food. Room was a bit damp. Saw more tigers though!"
Bernie Catterall (20/03/2010)
"Accommodation and surroundings excellent. Very comfortable and relaxing. Good shared 'relaxation' areas and a nice touch of tea/coffee/drinks provided there on return from every afternoon drive as it got dark."
John Hunt (02/03/2009)
"The lodge was good both in terms of meals and accommodation. We were warmly welcomed and looked after very well. It was a pity that there were not many other guests to make it a more social gathering but tourism appeared to be down quite a lot."
