Situated on the banks of the Banjaar River, overlooking Kanha National Park, Banjaar Tola is the most luxurious of the lodges around the park. Spread over 90 acres of grassland and forest, Banjaar Tola consists of two independent camps, each with nine tents and their own restaurant, bar and swimming pool.
Each luxurious tented room is equipped with modern features such as air conditioning and minibars, and is elegantly furnished in a contemporary Indian style. Furnishings are crafted locally from indigenous timber and textiles, and feature art from the local culture. Delicious meals are served on dining decks overlooking the Banjaar River.
Banjaar Tola is just a short drive from the quieter Mukki Gate entrance to Kanha National Park. Its guides have some of the best training in India, and the lodge has its own high quality vehicles.
Open: Banjaar Tola is open from 16 October to 30 June.
Location: Banjaar Tola is located near one of the entrances to Kanha National Park. The nearest airports are Jabalpur (118 miles) and Nagpur (180 miles). Guests arriving at either airport are met by a chauffeur-driven vehicle.
Rooms: There are 2 separate camps (east and west), each with 9 tented suites. All are set on raised platforms and have private decks overlooking the Banjaar River. They are well furnished with locally sourced and made products. The bathrooms have both baths and showers. There is butler service.
Activities: The camp arranges morning and afternoon 4x4 safaris in the national park, led by their own naturalist guides. They also offer elephant-back safaris. There are guided nature walks in the forest around the camp. This is a good place for bird watching. On some evenings guests are entertained by tribal music and dancing. Guests can take a cookery lesson with the chef.
Facilities: The camps share a tented lounge and dining area, filled with local handicrafts. Meals are based on Indian cuisine. Dinner is often served in a forest setting, by lantern light. There is a small library and a safari shop. There is a swimming pool with a partly shaded deck. Guests can enjoy massages in their own tent, on their private terrace or by the pool. The camp offers a laundry service.
Dining: Meals are taken at individual tables in the dining area, on the dining decks, on the private deck or in the forest.
Children: Children of all ages are welcome, but young children are not allowed on safaris.
Health: We recommend malarial prophylactics for travel to India.
Communication: There is free internet access in the main camp area.
