A coffee tour can incorporate many things. You can learn the ins and outs of the process of coffee production from farming, harvesting, processing, right through to having a sip of some of the freshest coffee you are likely to ever try.
There are many award winning plantations that offer coffee tours, so there is bound to be one which will fit in with your itinerary. You could enhance the experience even further by choosing to stay on a coffee farm for a night or two.
where to go
There are coffee plantations throughout Costa Rica. The climate in the central highlands, stretching north from San Jose to Monteverde, is ideal for growing coffee and you will find an abundance of plantations here producing award-winning coffee, many of them offering tours. If you would like to stay on a coffee plantation, Finca de la Rosa, near San Jose would be a good choice.
when to go
Coffee tours are held all year round. Harvest time varies slightly between regions, but as a general rule its between November and March.
how to do it
Most places offering coffee tours do so at scheduled times. We can easily incorporate a tour into your itinerary if you wish and tie it in with the routing of your trip. Some are better than others, so just let us know and we can offer our advice.
