Moroccan cuisine is bursting with flavour, and Arab, Berber and other Mediterranean cultures have influenced it over the years. So too has the huge range of produce which can be grown here. Moroccan food can be hearty, for example gorgeous stews called tagines and coucous, but it can also be refined, and there are some top class restaurants in Marrakech and Fez who can easily prove this.
Since food is surely one of the joys of travelling, how exciting to learn about a country's cuisine, and take that knowledge back home with you for the delight of friends and family (and yourself!).
We can arrange for you to join a cooking workshop in Marrakech while you are staying for a few days. The classes are taken in English (possibly via a translator), and unless a private lesson is requested, it will be a small group taught by a Moroccan cook. The workshops are based at a hotel.
Generally you will be taught an appetiser or salad and a main dish, though sometimes a main dish and pudding is taught. At the end of the session which is about half a day, you all join together to dine on the meal you've prepared.
Cooking is a lovely way to get under the skin of Marrakech.
Cookery classes are available at many hotels in Marrakech. We especially recommend the workshops at La Maison Arabe, and those at La Maison Arabe's private gardens just outside the city, where there is a modern cookery school and an organic kitchen garden.
Cooking classes take place all year round.
Half day workshops are led by a dada (traditional Moroccan cook) or one of the hotel's chefs. The maximum group size is 10 for the workshop. Dishes are prepared using modern kitchen equipment. At the end of the workshop you have time to eat the meal you've created. If you take a workshop at La Maison Arabe's private gardens, the hotel will provide transport to and from the gardens, about a 15 minute drive away.
Experience life in this vibrant and exciting city, enjoy the entertainment and fine food.
