When you arrive at Kayamandi Township in Stellenbosch in South Africa's wineland, the whole place is
alive with activity. There are people, kids and animals all over the place as you wind your way through the warren-like streets to find Lily's small house on the
top of the hill. Her house overlooks the township and the mountains of the Winelands
Greeted with a huge smile you are welcomed into her home as one of the family. Sit with her and listen to her life story - a truly fascinating tale of how one woman over came the odds to set up the small business she runs today. She will take you on a tour of the Township, and you'll meet some of her friends and family and learn about Township life.
On your return to her home, help her cook a traditional lunch or dinner on her tiny stove where you will be taught some new skills and recipes amidst much chatting and laughter.
You'll then sit down and enjoy the delicious fruits of your labours together.
In such a short visit you'll feel you've had a taste of what life is like for so many people living in townships across South Africa. If its eco/cultural tourism you’re looking for, you can’t get much closer than this! A really humbling but truly inspirational experience.
