Situated in a newly restored historic mansion overlooking the Plaza San Francisco, the Casa Gangotena sets a new standard for style and elegance in the colonial old town of Quito. The 31 rooms have been beautifully restored using traditional craftsmanship, incorporating modern technology and styling with a light and airy feel.
The service is friendly and efficient, and the hotel has several areas where you can relax including a restaurant, glass-ceilinged patio and garden. The rooftop terrace, exclusive to hotel guests, offers one of the best views of the city looking out over the church and convent of San Francisco in one direction and the Virgin of Quito on top of El Panecilo hill in the other.
The present mansion was built in the 1920s, after the previous building burnt down. It was the home of the wealthy Gangotena family. However, by the end of the century, the house had fallen into disrepair and it took several years of hard work to turn the building into one of Quito’s best hotels. Elements from the original house have been painstakingly restored and incorporated into the design alongside new materials and furnishings made to match the history of the house.
