Namuwoki Lodge

Rating: Modest

Namuwoki Lodge overview

This small, unassuming lodge is a short stroll from Playa Chiquita and 6kms from Puerto Viejo on the southern Caribbean coast. It consists of a collection of traditionally styled chalets of varying sizes set in leafy gardens, with a pool, restaurant, bar and spa on site.

The chalets are attractive wooden structures, typical of dwellings in the Caribbean region. The style is simple and charming: wooden floors, beamed walls and ceilings, mosquito net draped beds and attractive soft furnishings. All have an en-suite shower room and a private terrace with seating and a hammock. There are large chalets sleeping up to four people, family rooms and some suites with larger terraces with sofas and jacuzzi, All have views of the gardens.

There is a small restaurant on site, with doors opening on to the pool area. The swimming pool is surrounded by a deck with sun loungers, and there's a poolside bar where you can enjoy a chilled drink. There is a covered chill-out lounge where you can help yourself to hot drinks and water, out of the heat of the sun, and an outdoor sitting area beneath a thatched roof. The spa offers a choice of therapies.

You have a wide range of activities, both water and land-based, to keep you busy. Staff can arrange a full day snorkelling excursion in Cahuita National Park showcasing tropical fish, turtles and corals, guided hiking and wildlife watching trips in the national park, horse riding and a visit to the Kekoldi Indigenous Reserve to learn about local plant and wildlife and Bribri culture. Playa Chiquita is just a short walk from the lodge and is a good place to relax and soak up some sun.

Double and quadruple chalets have the same facilities but differ in size, with the double rooms having one queen size bed and the quadruple rooms having two queen size beds. Both have ceiling fans, an en-suite shower room and a terrace with a hammock. The family chalet has two levels of accommodation with a bedroom on each, a shared shower room and terrace with hammocks. "Lovely lodge great sized detached room lots of wildlife on site, had a howler monkey in our hammock ! Food good for dinner. Nice little relaxing pool. Walking distance of 'Jaguar' rescue centre, just short walk to the beach. Quite a long way from main town, (not walking distance ). 20 minute drive to Cahuita National Park. Great first stop and introduction to Caribbean Costa Rica!"
