Staying at La Leona Eco Lodge you'll have Corcovado National Park on your doorstep, you can't get any closer. This family-owned property is set in a 500-acre private reserve and makes a convenient base from which to explore the national park.
Your accommodation is a cosy tented cabin, with a comfy bed, a private bathroom open to the sky, and viewing deck with views of the pacific Ocean or rainforest according to its location. Inside large windows ensure the bedroom is light by day and at night, as there is no electricity in the rooms, candles provide gentle illumination. It is pleasingly simple, you can immerse yourself in nature with no distractions, it's a true escape.
The open-sided restaurant serves tasty food which you can enjoy while looking out over the ocean, and there's a bar with a selection of wines and beers. Tea and coffee, water and fruit juices and smoothies are available throughout the day. There are hammocks strung beneath trees in the grounds, ideal for relaxing and listening to the sounds of the jungle and ocean.
Nature's bounty is clearly evident, with a profusion of plants, flowers and trees, and abundant animal and bird life. Expert guides lead you on trails in the private reserve and the national park to enable you to experience this diversity for yourself, and you'll have the chance to explore by kayak and on horseback too. It's well worth taking a nightwalk to see what animals start to emerge after dusk, you might be surprised at what you see.
Open: La Leona Eco Lodge is open all year round.
Location: The Osa Peninsula, adjacent to the Corcovado National Park.
Rooms: There are 10 en-suite ocean view tents, 6 en-suite tents with garden views and 5 tents which make use of shared bathrooms . The tents are comfortable and rustic, each simply furnished with a private veranda. The showers are either open or semi-open to the sky. There is no electricity in the rooms, lighting is provided by candles, adding to the ambience.
Activities: There is a good choice of activities here. From self-guided tours in the reserves, bird watching and rainforest tours. Why not kayak through the mangroves or take a horse ride along the beach. You can also wander at leisure through the trails on the private reserve. During the season you can also take tours to the beach to see nesting turtles or hatchlings making their way to the sea.
Facilities: There is a delightful open air restaurant and bar overlooking the ocean and hammocks are dotted about the property at strategic places allowing you to relax and enjoy the surrounding nature.
Dining: Dining is at individual tables.
Children: Children aged 4 years and over are welcome at La Leona Eco-Lodge.
Health: Costa Rica has a low risk of malaria.
Communication: There is no WiFi internet access and no mobile signal. There is internet access and radio communication for operational and emergency purposes only.
